The Steelers and Jets flipped quarterbacks in the offseason as the two AFC squads open the 2025 NFL season at Met Life Stadium. The game kicks off at 1:00 p.m. ET on CBS on Sunday, and we’ll look at the Steelers vs. Jets prediction in this intriguing matchup.
Steelers vs. Jets Prediction, Preview for 9/6/25
After the Aaron Rodgers Experiment didn’t work out in New York, the future Hall of Fame QB inked with Pittsburgh in the offseason. Coincidentally, Rodgers draws the Jets in the season opener, a team he led to a dreadful 5-12 record in 2024.
On the other side of the field, Justin Fields spent one season in the Steel City before signing a two-year deal with New York. The Jets hope he can resurrect his career after the Rodgers fiasco.

Pittsburgh Steelers
In spite of a merry-go-round at the quarterback position last season, the Steelers found a way to make the playoffs at 10-7.
Pittsburgh lost its starting quarterbacks (Fields and Russell Wilson), top running back Najee Harris to the Chargers, and leading wide receiver George Pickens to the Cowboys.
Can Rodgers be the savior in his what is likely his final stop before retirement? It might take a while to figure that one out, as he didn't take a single preseason snap.
New York Jets
The Jets haven’t made the playoffs since 2010 and haven’t posted a winning record since 2015.
Fields will have to jump-start an offense that ranked 24th in the NFL in total yards in 2024.
New York lost WR Davante Adams to the Rams in the offseason, but still boast star Garrett Wilson, who seeks his fourth consecutive 1,000-yard season.
Steelers vs. Jets Picks & NFL DFS
Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers vs. Jets Projection: 199.5 Passing Yards
Rodgers put up 28 TD’s and 11 INT’s in his first full season with the Jets after tearing his Achilles tendon in the 2023 opener.
His YPA was tied for the lowest of his career at 6.7, while his 63% completion rate was his lowest since 2019.
Rodgers eclipsed 200 passing yards in 11 of 17 games, including six of eight home contests.
Rodgers looks to break an odd opening week streak: Dating back to 2021, the former Packer has finished with less than 200 yards passing in four consecutive season openers, which includes the unfortunate campaign-ending injury game against Buffalo in 2023.
Jets WR Garrett Wilson vs. Steelers Projection: 55.5 Receiving Yards
Wilson hasn’t had the luxury of playing a full season with one quarterback in his three-year tenure with the Jets. However, the former Ohio State standout hauled in a career-high 1,104 yards in his one complete year alongside Rodgers.
Wilson and his former Buckeye teammate Justin Fields aim to jump-start the New York offense. In six of eight home games last season, Wilson was limited to 54 receiving yards or less, while getting held to 5 receptions five or fewer times.
In 2024, Wilson received the third-most targets in the league with 152, and ranked in the top-four in the NFL in pass snaps over the last two seasons.
This will mark Wilson’s second career game against the Steelers, as he picked up 2 receptions for 41 yards in his rookie year in a 24-20 victory at Pittsburgh.
Jets RB Breece Hall vs. Steelers Projection: 44.5 Rushing Yards
Hall fell six yards shy of 1,000 rushing yards in 2023, but took a step backwards last season. The former Iowa State star racked up just 876 yards on the ground in 2024, ranking him 49th among running backs according to PFF in his offensive grade (62.0).
Hall compiled 45 or more rushing yards in 12 games, including in seven of eight home contests. He faces a Pittsburgh defense that ranked sixth in the NFL in rushing yards allowed at 98.7.
When Fields was Chicago's starting signal caller, no Bears running back rushed for more than 1,000 yards. In Fields' lone season in Pittsburgh, Harris eclipsed 1,000 yards on the ground, but Fields and Wilson split time under center.
