Fourth of July is just a week away, which means Americans will consume around 150 million hot dogs to celebrate the occasion. Last year, 775 of those hot dogs were scarfed down at the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest — an American tradition.

The field for the 2025 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest has been announced, which means early projections for every contestant are now live on PrizePicks. This year, world-record glizzy gobbler Joey Chestnut will return to claim his crown.

Below, we’ll give you everything you need to know for the 2025 hot dog eating contest, including projections for hot dogs eaten from PrizePicks, time, and who won in 2024 with Chestnut sidelined.

When is the Hot Dog Eating Contest 2025?

The Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest is a July 4 tradition. This year is no different, with both the men’s and women’s contests going down on July 4 in Coney Island, NY.

Times for 2025 have not been announced, but typically the women’s contest begins at 10:45 a.m. ET, and the men’s contest starts at 12 p.m. ET, live on ESPN.

Each contest runs 10 minutes. Whichever contestant finishes the most hot dogs and buns in the allotted time frame will be crowned the Hot Dog Eating Contest champion.

Who Won the 2024 Hot Dog Eating Contest?

Patrick Bertoletti won the 2024 Hot Dog Eating Contest on July 4, 2024, eating 58 hot dogs and buns. In second was Geoffrey Esper, with 53 hot dogs and buns.

However, the 2024 Hot Dog Eating Contest will forever have an invisible asterisk by the winner, as Joey Chestnut was required to sit out the contest, as he was banned due to his partnership with Impossible Foods, who is considered a competitor to Nathan’s with their plant-based hot dogs.

Before the one-year ban, Chestnut won the contest 16 times, including every year between 2016 and 2023. That span included his world record of 76 hot dogs — 7.6 per minute — in 2021. Chesnut downed 83 hot dogs in 10 minutes to break his own record on Netflix’s special, Unfinished Beef, in September 2024.

Chestnut has eaten at least 60 hot dogs in every contest since 2010, including eating over 70 in six Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contests.

In the women’s division in 2024 , Miki Sudo won, with 51 hot dogs and buns eaten. She dominated the field, similar to Chestnut on the men’s side, as second place Mayoi Ebihara only ate 37 hot dogs.
