For the last several years, the usual suspects have come away with the NFL MVP award. The illustrious accolade tends to skew toward superstar QBs, and while 2025 is leaning to that position again, a new crop of talents is taking over.

The 2025 NFL MVP field contains a wide range of narratives. Whether fans are interested in an up-and-comer, a mid-career maestro or a wily vet, there’s a flavor for everyone. Entering Week 14, the competition is only heating up.

#3: Green Bay Packers QB Jordan Love

NFL MVP Winner Payout via PrizePicks Team Picks: 10x Yes | 1.03x No

Somehow, the 8-3-1 Packers find themselves sitting as the sixth seed in the NFC playoff picture. That’s far more a testament to the strength of the conference and a loaded NFC North than an indictment on Jordan Love, however.

Everything is coming together for the former No. 26 overall pick in year five. Between his three seasons as a full-time starter, he’s posting personal bests in completion percentage (67.0), success rate (50.8%), adjusted yards per attempt (8.42), and much more.

That efficiency includes an ESPN QBR of 72.9, which trails only Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes (73.1) and Cowboys signal-caller Dak Prescott (75.3). According to SumerSports, among QBs with 100+ plays in 2025, Love’s 0.26 EPA/play average leads the league.

Love is coming off a huge Thanksgiving Day triumph over his division rivals, the Detroit Lions. In a 31-24 win, he threw for a season-high 4 TDs and didn’t take a single sack.

With two games remaining against the one-seed Chicago Bears, the door is left open for him to make a late MVP push.

#2: Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford

NFL MVP Winner Payout via PrizePicks Team Picks: 2.12x Yes | 1.66x No

Following a 31-28 upset loss to the Panthers (and Chicago winning yet again), the Rams fell from the one seed to the two seed in the NFC. In many ways, a similar fall from grace can be reflected in Matthew Stafford’s MVP candidacy.

Entering Week 13 as the leading contender, Stafford struggled in Charlotte, NC. After setting the NFL’s all-time record for TD passes without an INT, he proceeded to throw two of them — including a pick-six. The former Super Bowl champ also fumbled late on a strip-sack, which eventually sealed the deal on Sunday.

Still, it’s hard to count Stafford out. He still leads the sport in passing TDs with 32, as well as adjusted net yards per attempt at 8.18. Per Pro Football Focus, his 23 TDs when blitzed are more than double the next-closest players (three-way tie at 10). Even at age 37, Stafford can still carve up opposing defenses.

Los Angeles' remaining schedule contains three games against struggling teams (Atlanta Falcons, Arizona Cardinals twice), as well as huge outings against the Lions and Seattle Seahawks. Stafford, who’s just 0.2 off the lead for QB passer rating, seems far from finished.

#1: New England Patriots QB Drake Maye

NFL MVP Winner Payout via PrizePicks Team Picks: 2.04x Yes | 1.72x No

It’s Drake Maye’s world, and we’re all just living in it. Thanks to a huge 33-15 throttling of the New York Giants on Monday Night Football, his Patriots remain the top seed in the AFC. Having won 10 games in a row, New England is surging, as is Maye’s MVP case.

Through 13 weeks, Maye has a full sweep of the league lead for completion percentage (71.5), passing yards (3,412), adjusted yards per attempt (9.33), and passer rating (111.9). Despite taking 40 sacks, he routinely keeps the Patriots ahead of the sticks.

Contrary to what that completion clip suggests, Maye pushes the ball down the field plenty. Via Next Gen Stats, he’s converted on more passes of 10+ air yards (88) than any QB. He also has over 200 more yards on such throws than anyone else.

It doesn’t hurt that Maye can run a bit; his 9.94% scramble rate ranks second among QBs with 250+ plays.

The Patriots have the 24th-ranked remaining strength of schedule, per ESPN’s FPI. Maye has set quite the bar already. All the 23-year-old has to do now is keep being great and keep the Patriots at the top of the AFC.
