New Orleans Pelicans SG Jordan Poole has been out of the lineup since early November after suffering a quad strain, but he is close to returning to the court.
The Pelicans are officially listing Poole as questionable for Thursday’s game vs. the Portland Trail Blazers at 8 p.m. ET tonight. Poole has missed New Orleans’ last 16 games after leaving a Nov. 4 contest against the Charlotte Hornets prematurely due to injury.
Let’s take a look at the latest Jordan Poole injury update for tonight's game and find out if he's playing, plus check out some key stats and PrizePicks picks for the rest of the Pelicans’ players, including Trey Murphy III.
Jordan Poole Injury Update: Is Poole Playing Tonight?
The Pelicans are officially listing Poole as questionable for Thursday’s game due to a left quad strain. Poole originally suffered the injury in a Nov. 4 game against the Hornets. The veteran guard will likely be a game-time decision for Thursday’s game.
Poole missed his 18th consecutive game when he failed to suit up for Monday’s contest against the Spurs. However, according to The Athletic’s Will Guillory, Poole was a limited participant in Tuesday’s practice with the team.
Poole has been limited to just seven games this season due to the quad injury. In those contests, he’s averaging 17.3 points and 3.4 assists, but is shooting just 35.4% from the field.
The Pelicans acquired their starting SG in a three-team trade that sent C.J. McCollum to the Washington Wizards this past summer.
New Orleans has put together just a 3-22 record thus far this season, which qualifies for the most losses among any team in the NBA.
Target Trey Murphy III if Jordan Poole is Out vs. Trail Blazers?
If Poole isn’t able to play tonight, there is definitely a Pelican that could stand to benefit from his absence with additional playing time.
Pelicans SG Trey Murphy III should get the start and is expected to play big-time minutes if Poole continues to be out of the lineup. Since Poole has been sidelined in early November, Murphy is averaging 23.5 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 3.6 assists in 16 games.
Most recently, Murphy scored 32 points on 13-of-21 shooting to go along with four assists and three rebounds in a 135-132 loss vs. the Spurs on Monday. The 2021 first-round pick also connected on two of his six attempts from three.
Over his last four games, Murphy is averaging 27.3 points and is shooting 53.9% from the field in that span. Murphy has started all 23 games that he’s appeared in this season and is logging a career-high 35.7 minutes per contest.
