The dog days of summer have passed, the NFL preseason is already in its last week, and fantasy season is well upon us. As most fantasy football leagues begin to draft now through Labor Day, it’s imperative you roll into every draft ready to get your guys.

Using tiered rankings for drafting have become more and more popular in the last few years.

Below, we’ll take a deep dive into the best fantasy football players to target in each tier of your fantasy football rankings, and highlight these players' season-long projections for NFLSZN on PrizePicks.

Note: Tiers are via the FantasyPros rankings, which are commonly used in drafts and a composite of fantasy football experts rankings.

Best Fantasy Football Player to Target in Tier 1

Ranking Tier 1 is short and sweet, giving us Ja’Marr Chase, Bijan Robinson, Justin Jefferson, and CeeDee Lamb.

Best Pick: Bengals WR Ja’Marr Chase

This is one of the few years where if I don’t have the first overall pick, I’d actually rather draft from the back. Chase just feels leagues ahead of the rest of Tier 1 after his historic campaign last season in a down year for the Bengals.

That campaign was special from Chase, becoming just the 5th player since 1970 to win the triple crown — awarded when a player leads the league in receptions (127), receiving yards (1,708), and receiving touchdowns (17).

Chase saw massive volume all season (8+ targets in 10 straight games to end the year) and still remained highly efficient.

All signs point to a repeat year with little changing in the offseason and Chase already dominating in his limited preseason showings.

  • Receptions: 101.5
  • Receiving Yards: 1299.5
  • Receiving TDs: 10.5
  • 100+ Reception Yard Games: 4.5

Best Fantasy Football Pick in Tier 2

Tier 2 gives us Jahmyr Gibbs, Malik Nabers, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Puka Nacua, Saquon Barkley, Nico Collins, and Brian Thomas Jr. to choose from.

Best Pick: Lions WR Amon-Ra St. Brown

Amon-Ra St. Brown is one of my favorite guys to grab towards the end of the top 10 spots in the rankings. In a group at the top of the league with Chase and Jefferson the last few years, it’s hard to find such a consistently reliable and dominant WR at this price tag.

ARSB has slipped a bit with talks of fellow WR Jameson Williams' emergence, but that should only open it up even more for St. Brown, who already nets his QB with the highest passer rating in the league when targeted (119).

St. Brown finished as the overall WR3 last season, netting the second most receptions in the league at 115, and boasting the second highest catch rate despite the high volume at 82.1%.

Best Fantasy Football Pick in Tier 3

Fantasy Football ranking Tier 3 bulks up a bit taking us to the No. 21-ranked player, giving us lots of options between Drake London, Christian McCaffery, A.J. Brown, Brock Bowers, De’Von Achane, Ladd McConkey, Ashton Jeanty, Trey McBride, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba,

Best Pick: Raiders TE Brock Bowers

What happens when you take an elite 6’4” WR but he weighs 243 lbs? You get Brock Bowers at TE.

The same Brock Bowers who had more 100-yard receiving games across 2021-2023 than everyone else on the team, including Ladd McConkey and James Cook. He was also one of just three players — projected first overall pick Ja’Marr Chase included — last season to have six games of 80+ receiving yards and 8+ receptions.

Travis Kelce drafters of late may be spooked off taking a tight end this early, but the volume speaks for itself. Following Week 11, only Trey McBride garnered more target share at the TE position across the league. The difference here is Bowers doesn’t also have a clear WR1 to contend with.

  • 100+ Reception Yard Games: 2.5
  • Receptions: 95.5
  • Receiving Yards: 999.5
  • Receiving TDs: 4.5

Best Fantasy Football Pick in Tier 4

Fantasy football rankings Tier 4 takes us through No. 34, including Derrick Henry, Garrett Wilson, Tee Higgins, Josh Allen, Tyreek Hill, Lamar Jackson, Chase Brown, Josh Jacobs, Bucky Irving, Davante Adams, Jonathan Taylor, George Kittle, and Mike Evans.

Best Pick: Bengals RB Chase Brown

It took half the season for Chase Brown to take control of the Bengals RB room, but once he did Brown became a fantasy beast.

In Weeks 9-17,  Brown posted 20.6 PPR points a game, good for RB4 overall, en route to over 85% of the team's offensive snaps. This season, he already has the internal buy-in, with OC Dan Pitcher calling him “a top-10 back” and telling the media they’ve redesigned parts of the run game to showcase him.

With the Bengals set to continue being a high-tempo offense, and the defense keeping the offense on the field more than most, Brown can continue to excel in the passing game too — especially great for PPR formats.

  • Rush Yards: 875.5
  • Rush TDs: 6.5
  • Receptions: 40.5
  • Receiving Yards: 300.5
  • Rush+Rec TDs: 9.5
  • Rush+Rec Yards: 1175.5

Best Fantasy Football Pick in Tier 5

Tier 5 in the fantasy football rankings raps up the top 50 players, with Jayden Daniels, Kyren Williams, Jalen Hurts, Marvin Harrison Jr., DJ Moore, Terry McLaurin, Alvin Kamara, Breece Hall, Kenneth Walker III, DK Metcalf, Courland Sutton, James Cook, Joe Burrow, DeVonta Smith, and Omarion Hampton.

Best Pick: Broncos WR Courtland Sutton

Courtland Sutton finished the year 22nd among WRs in PPR, and even better in half-PPR and non-PPR. Now going exactly at that price tag of WR22 in drafts is interesting.

Interesting is that doesn’t take into account Broncos QB Bo Nix’s slow start to the season. Yes, he’s 29-years-old, yet Sutton played all last season and has only missed three games in as many years.

More importantly he’s also getting the second season with Nix, who we saw develop a lot in the course of his rookie season. After posting a dud in Week 7, Sutton would go on to average 17.96 fantasy points per game, good for a mid WR1.

Sutton didn’t have much target share competition last season, and the only notable addition to the pass game comes in the form of TE Evan Engram, making it a reasonable thought Sutton could again command over 25% of the team’s target share — tantalizing volume at this point of the draft.
