Belal Muhammad vs. Jack Della Maddalena: Pick & Preview
Muhammad has won six straight and is without a loss in his last 11 showings, netting himself a title along the way. Now, Muhammad will get a chance to show again that we should “remember the name” in his first title defense against rising star Jack Della Maddalena.
Muhammad is no stranger to ending win streaks along his path to claiming the Welterweight title, but Della Maddalena could prove his toughest test yet.
Della Maddalena — a perfect 7-0 in the UFC in just three years time — has had an equally impressive run in his pro career. After losing his first two bouts to begin his professional career, he rattled off 9 straight inside the distance wins before earning himself a ticket to Dana White’s Contender Series. There he found a decision win, joined the UFC and found himself three wins in as many minutes inside the octagon — and since has quickly run out of better talent to be matched against.
This one is expected to be a close one, as both men are very well rounded, with perhaps Muhammad’s grappling giving him the slight edge. Many fight fans question the star power of this PPV, but there would be no denying the bright future of Della Maddalena if he can claim the belt at the ripe age of just 28.
Muhammad vs. Della Maddalena Prediction: Muhammad 5 Takedowns
- In Muhammad’s last bout he boasted nine Takedowns on 13 attempts.
- Muhammad averages 2.28 Takedowns per 15 mins in the octagon.
- In Della Maddalena's last bout he was taken down seven times on 11 attempts.
- Prior to that bout, Della Maddalena had been taken down just four times on 25 attempts since joining the UFC.
Valentina Shevchenko vs. Manon Fiorot: Pick & Preview
After battling just Alexa Grasso for her last three bouts spanning two years, Shevchenko finally gets a new opponent in Fiorot. While some thought her age was beginning to show at 37, her last bout put the haters to bed in a complete dismantling of Grasso.
Shevchenko has seen it all at this point, and typically comes out on top, winning 17 of her last 21 and 10 of her last 12. Sprinkle in seven successful title defenses and you'll be hard pressed to find a more decorated active fighter in either the men’s and women’s division.
Similar to our main event contender in Della Maddalena, Fiorot also tasted defeat in her professional debut, only to quickly turn it around. Riding a 12-fight win streak, with seven of them coming in the UFC, including one against former champion Rose Namajunas — Shevchenko has her work cut out for her.
Shevchenko vs. Fiorot Prediction: Shevchenko 2 Takedowns
- Shevchenko has landed three or more takedowns in eight straight bouts.
- Shevchenko averages 2.74 Takedowns per 15 minutes.
- Fiorot has only been taken down once on 15 attempts in the UFC.
Jose Aldo vs. Aiemann Zahabi: Pick & Preview
After a two-year hiatus, Brazil legend and UFC Hall of Famer Jose Aldo will make his third fight in two years. 41 professional fights deep, Aldo has shown enough to prove he still has gas left in the tank, and that coupled with his experience is enough to continue warrating him getting top 15 billings.
His opposition Zahabi finally gets his homecoming, fighting in front of his Canadian crowd for the first time in over a decade. As the slight underdog in the bout, this is one to watch to see flashes of Aldo’s greatness and in the chance he gets caught — to see just how crazy this crowd can get in Montreal.
A loss for Aldo here could signal hanging it up after back to back losses and would prove Zahabi is ready for the top ten, but a win for the HOFer could mean we get the privilege of seeing him throw down again in the future.
Aldo vs. Zahabi Prediction: Zahabi 53.5 Significant Strikes
- Zahabi lands 4.06 Significant Strikes a minute, or 60.9 per 15-minute bout.
- Zahabi has an average fight time of 11:23, putting him just over a 46 Significant Strike average a fight.
- Aldo absorbs 3.72 Significant Strikes a minute, or 55.8 per 15 minute bout.
- Aldo has seen eight of his last nine fights go to decision.
Alexa Grasso vs. Natalia Silva: Pick & Preview
Becoming the first Mexican woman to win a UFC title was huge for Grasso, but the second defense against Shevchenko left a ton to be desired, with her landing a disappointing 18 Significant Strikes across the entire five rounds.
Her opposition Natalia Silva doesn’t know the feeling, winning all six of her UFC bouts. With the co-main event deciding who is holding the Women’s Flyweight belt by the end of the night, it’s safe to say our winner here should see them next.
Either way, we should be in for a high level fight, with Grasso looking to prove she can take another stab at the title, and Silva looking to prove she can hang with the best of them and is deserving of a title shot being somewhat fresh into the UFC.
Grasso vs. Silva Prediction: Silva 64.5 Significant Strikes
- Silva lands 5.19 Significant Strikes a minute, or 77.85 per 15-minute bout.
- Both women have gone the distance in three of their last four fights.
- Grasso absorbs 3.69 Significant Strikes a minute, or 55.35 per 15-minute bout.
Benoit Saint-Denis vs. Kyle Prepolec: Pick & Preview
To kick off the UFC 315 main card we get potentially the biggest skill mismatch of the entire night, with Saint-Denis being seen as a shoo-in for an easy win. With that comes what could be our best candidate to not be decided by the judges, with PrizePicks setting the projection for Fight Time at just 5.5 Minutes.
On short notice, Prepolec stepped up to replace Joel Alvarez, and is on the precipice of an amazing comeback story. Losing his only two UFC fights back in 2019, Prepolec has now found himself chaining three first round finishes in a row — netting himself not just a return to the UFC but a spot on the main card of a PPV. Win or lose, the Canadian has a lot to be proud of.
Saint-Denis will be hungry to make sure that story doesn’t come to fruition, as he is now the victim of back-to-back losses in the second round following his catapulting to the top 15 via five straight finishes of his opposition inside the distance.
In what should be a tune up for Saint-Denis, there’s always room for a slip up, and that room may be a little more likely with the crowd behind Prepolec, and him fighting with nothing to lose.
Saint-Denis vs. Prepolec Prediction: Saint-Denis 5.5 Fight Time (Mins)
- Saint-Denis has an average fight time of 7:33.
- Saint-Denis has finished his opponent in the first round in two of his last five bouts.
- Prepolec’s last three fights have been decided by a combined 8 minutes and 41 seconds.
