Alexandra Eala has been packing stadiums all summer long, and that’s unlikely to change tonight in New York.
As a refresher, Eala’s strong play dates back to June. After plodding through a difficult stretch on clay, she regained her confidence during the grass swing, winning a WTA 125 title in Birmingham, reaching the semifinals in Berlin, and then advancing to the round of 16 at Wimbledon.
Eala then brought that momentum stateside, claiming her first tour-level title in Washington. She’s up to a career-high 18th in the rankings after beginning 2026 ranked outside the top 50.
Arguably the most impressive aspect of her recent success is who she’s beaten along the way. Over the past three months, she’s earned top-15 wins over Elena Rybakina, Elina Svitolina (twice), Iga Swiatek, Naomi Osaka, and Jessica Pegula.
Although Eala followed her Washington title with earlier exits in both Toronto and Cincinnati, her recent losses came against Belinda Bencic and Amanda Anisimova, a pair of players currently ranked inside the top 12. The added rest ahead of the US Open could also be a positive after playing so many matches this summer, too.
Tonight, Eala will face qualifier Mary Stoiana, a player competing in her first major main draw.
