Swiatek entered the North American hard-court swing amidst a disappointing campaign, still without a title in 2026 and coming off a third-round exit at Wimbledon.

Well, it’s safe to say she’s regained her confidence and then some, capturing the Canadian Open title last week and entering this match on a nine-match winning streak.

In Toronto, Swiatek not only defeated tonight’s opponent, Rybakina, in the final, but she also took down Marta Kostyuk, Diana Shnaider, and Elina Svitolina along the way. That gave her four wins over top-20 players.

We’ve seen how difficult it is to defeat Swiatek when she goes on runs like this, and it just so happens she’s the defending Cincinnati Open champion, too.

Rybakina is unlikely to go quietly in this Canadian Open final rematch, though. She won the Australian Open earlier this season and is now up to a whopping 42 wins on the season.

The world No. 2 should also be far more rested than she was when they met in Toronto. Prior to that final, Rybakina had to grind through several three-setters, resulting in almost 11 and a half hours of court time before she faced Swiatek. Rybakina herself admitted to being “very tired” after the loss.

That being said, Rybakina's uneven form in Toronto led to all those lengthy matches, and it wasn't like she entered that tournament with a ton of momentum following early exits at both the French Open and Wimbledon.

Further, Swiatek has now won five of the last seven matches against Rybakina, all within the last two seasons. Four of those wins have come on hard courts as well.

While a refreshed Rybakina should trouble her opponent far more this time around, Swiatek looks like a deserving favorite with both recent form and head-to-head history leaning in her favor.
