It feels like a long time since Cincinnati became the first non-power conference program to reach the College Football Playoff. Since 2023, when head coach Scott Satterfield took over, the team has gone 17-22 and appeared in just one bowl game.
The Bearcats may not improve much this season, given their schedule. They face a gauntlet with consecutive games against #13 Texas Tech, #17 Utah, and #22 Houston, then close the season vs. #11 BYU.
The Bearcats have a new quarterback, JC French IV, who transferred from Georgia Southern. French plays a similar style to former Cincinnati QB Brendan Sorsby; both are efficient passers, and French has posted an 81.6% completion percentage and a 3-0 TD-to-INT ratio this season.
They are also above-average runners, as French ranks 18th among 45 FBS quarterbacks with at least 15 attempts in yards per carry (5.9) and has the third-most rushing TDs among all quarterbacks (3).
Cincinnati will play Miami (OH), and the Red Hawks’ defense performed poorly against their only FBS opponent. When Miami played Pitt, it allowed 59 points and 166 rushing yards.
French could have a great day on the ground, and 2 of his rushing TDs have come in the red zone, so if the Bearcats get close enough, he’ll take it himself.

#12 USC vs. Rutgers Anytime TD Scorer Predictions – 3:30 p.m. ET
USC WR Kayden Dixon-Wyatt: 0.5 Receiving TDs (Demon)
Expectations for USC were very high when it hired Lincoln Riley as head coach. The Trojans have had no College Football Playoff appearances and just one trip to a conference championship. However, this season could be the season when they finally turn things around.
USC’s offense has looked great to start the season, ranking in the 78th percentile for points per game (43.3). QB Jayden Maiava has been a major force and could be emerging as a Heisman Trophy contender, leading the country in passing yards (896) and passing TDs (10).
The Trojans’ pass attack with two true freshmen as leading receivers was a question entering the season. Former 4-star recruit WR Trent Mosley has enjoyed an excellent start to the season, ranking ninth nationally in receiving yards (255) and tied for fifth in receiving touchdowns (4).
Unfortunately, the Trojans will be without their leading receiver, as Mosley will miss this game due to an undisclosed injury. This could mean they turn to their other 2026 four-star recruit, WR Kayden Dixon-Wyatt.
Maiava has given Mosley and Dixon-Wyatt equal opportunities, with each recording 13 receptions and Mosley having only 2 more targets. With Mosley not suiting up, Dixon-Wyatt could handle the role of leading receiver.
We’re not even out of September, and it already feels like a lost season for Rutgers. It started the year by losing at home to a UMass program that went winless the previous season, and then lost to Boston College, which went 2-10 in 2025.
The Scarlet Knights have struggled against the pass, ranking in the 30th percentile in passing yards allowed per game (224.5) and in the first percentile in passing yards allowed per attempt (8.8). With Maiava 11th in the country in yards per attempt (10.8), he may have a big game in the air, benefiting Dixon-Wyatt.

Opponents have been walking all over SJSU’s defense this season, ranking in the 21st percentile in points per game allowed (27.7), an improvement from last year’s 11th percentile (32.5).
San Jose State has been especially vulnerable against the run, ranking in the 45th percentile in yards per carry allowed (3.9).
When the Spartans allow their opponents to reach the red zone, those opponents are likely to find paydirt, as SJSU has allowed 10 TDs in 12 trips — including 6 rushing TDs.
