Injuries have stalled Arthur Fils at multiple points this season, with the Frenchman most notably missing both the Australian Open and French Open. Fils returned from his latest setback to poor results at Wimbledon and Washington, but he finally showed signs of getting back on track with a run to the Canadian Open quarterfinals less than two weeks ago.

It’s all come together here in Cincinnati, as Fils has strung together five wins to reach this final, including top-20 victories over Jiri Lehecka, Alex de Minaur, and 2026 French Open runner-up Flavio Cobolli.

Fils also made deep runs at Doha, Indian Wells, and Miami earlier this season, reaching the final, quarterfinals, and semifinals, respectively. He now enters this match boasting a 21-7 record on hard courts in 2026.

Frances Tiafoe comes in as the underdog, but he will no doubt try to use the American crowd to fuel an upset bid.

While Tiafoe was having a sorry summer before entering this event, he’s also found his form in the nick of time, racking up statement wins against Learner Tien, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Lorenzo Musetti, and Brandon Nakashima—all top-25 opponents.

However, Fils has been remarkably efficient in his Cincinnati Open run and could be the more in-form and fresher player. The Frenchman has been broken just three times all tournament, and his last two matches have lasted only 64 and 67 minutes, respectively.

On the other hand, Tiafoe's last two matches have been more of a grind, as he played a first-set tiebreak against Musetti and had to save seven of nine break points against Nakashima.

Historically, Fils also has the higher career win rate on hard courts (60.7%) compared to Tiafoe (53.8%).

According to Tennis Abstract’s Elo ratings, Fils has a 63.0% chance of winning this match.

Ultimately, while both players have raised their level in this tournament, the 22-year-old Fils looks like he's tapped into his high ceiling over the last few matches and could be a tough on on Sunday.

Arthur Fils vs. Frances Tiafoe Pick for the Cincinnati Open on Sunday

Arthur Fils Pick – 21.5 Fantasy Score

Note: In PrizePicks tennis fantasy scoring, players earn 10 points to start (match played), games won/lost are +1/-1, sets won/lost at +3/-3, aces are 0.5, while double faults count for -0.5.

In Cincinnati, Fils has scored 24.5, 21.5, 21, 24.5, and 22.5 fantasy points across his five matches.

Over his last three matches, Fils has won at least 80% of his first-serve points.

The Frenchman has produced a modest 8.4% ace rate on hard courts this season, but he could have an easier time generating aces versus Tiafoe. That’s because the American has a 13.8% ace rate against on hard courts this year, the second-worst mark among the top 50 players.

In their lone previous meeting, Fils outlasted Tiafoe 7-6(11), 5-7, 6-2 at the 2025 Miami Open. While it was a competitive match, Fils tallied 21 aces to 4 double faults, leading to a 24.5 fantasy score.
