One spot remains up for grabs for the final four of the MLB Playoffs, as the White Sox and Guardians collide for a series-deciding Game 5 in the ALDS on Saturday, October 10. PrizePicks has the Guardians as the favorite with a 1.66x payout to win for tonight’s 8:00 p.m. ET start on TBS and truTV.

This is what October baseball is all about. Two divisional rivals clash with a spot in the ALCS up for grabs, as the winner faced the Tampa Bay Rays. After the White Sox took the first two games of the series, the Guardians won two games in Chicago, bringing the ALDS back to Cleveland for Game 5.

For Saturday night’s high-stake matchup, White Sox SP Sean Burke (3.34 ERA, 3.78 xERA in 27 GS) and Guardians SP Gavin Williams (3.76 ERA, 3.82 xERA in 32 GS) are expected to get the starts.

Below, we’ll break down our White Sox vs. Guardians prediction for ALDS Game 5, followed by player picks for PrizePicks.

Following a 2-0 sweep of the Astros in the Wild Card round with 6.5 runs per game, the White Sox began the ALDS with 3-0 and 4-3 wins over the Guardians.

During the regular season, Chicago carried a team 4.35 xERA (22nd) and allowed 4.5 runs per game (15th). Limiting Cleveland to 1.5 runs per contest to open the ALDS was likely bound to increase, and that’s precisely what happened with the Guards’ 9-3 and 9-5 wins over the last two.

The White Sox went with bullpen games in the previous two matchups, and Chicago’s relievers had a 4.13 xERA in the regular season (19th), once again suggesting the postseason’s current 2.73 xERA (fourth-best) was probably headed for regression.

Cleveland has rocked better pitching for most of the season, including a team 3.94 xERA (eighth) in the regular season. In the playoffs, the Guardians carry a 2.61 xERA from their bullpen (second-best).

When it comes to batting, Chicago’s regular season .406 SLG has dropped to .325 in the playoffs. Further, its hit only 0.67 home runs per game compared to 1.28 in the regular season (sixth).

As usual, hitting numbers are bound to come down with pitching improved in the postseason. Starters have shorter leashes, with managers quick to call on their bullpen. That’s especially key for a group of Guardians relievers providing strong numbers in this series.

Meanwhile, Cleveland’s .214 playoff batting average is poor, but it's drawing walks at an incredible rate (15.8%). For context, the Braves’ 11.6% is the second-best total in this category during the MLB Playoffs.

Let’s dig into our White Sox vs. Guardians prediction, highlighted by a pick for the winner on PrizePicks.

White Sox vs. Guardians Prediction on Winner for ALDS Game 5 – 10/10/26

Entering Saturday’s win-or-go-home affair, White Sox SP Sean Burke makes his third start of the MLB Playoffs.

In the Wild Card round, he went 4.0 innings while allowing 4 hits, 3 home runs, and 3 earned runs. Burke improved for Game 2 vs. the Guardians, yielding only 1 hit and 1 earned run over 5.1 innings of work. Most importantly, he gave up only 1 walk to Cleveland.

Over the last two games, the Guardians have produced an absurd 8.5 walks per game, and they’re driving in runs thanks to 10.5 hits per contest in that split. Burke’s ability to limit this BB% rate cannot be stressed enough.

Baseball Savant credits Burke with an 8.7% walk rate, which isn’t great in the 46th percentile. However, his Game 2 success vs. the Guardians can be trusted considering Burke faced Cleveland three times in the regular season and gave up 1, 0, and 2 walks.

In that regular-season split, Chicago’s starter ceded 1, 1, and 0 earned runs. Some of the Guards’ stars have simply struggled against Burke, such as 3B Jose Ramirez, having 0 hits over 10 career plate appearances vs. Burke, via Sports Reference.

If his success continues vs. Cleveland, that goes a long way in limiting this White Sox bullpen — especially when the unit used seven arms in back-to-back matchups.

For the Guardians, SP Gavin Williams also started in Game 2 of the ALDS, surrendering 4 hits and 2 earned runs in 5.0 innings. He made a brief closing appearance with 18 pitches and 1 hit allowed in Game 4’s 9-5 win.

During the regular season, Williams started vs. Chicago on four occasions, allowing 2, 3, 2, and 2 earned runs. According to FanGraphs, Williams’ 1.37 HR/9 and 17.0% home run-to-fly ball rate (HR/FB%) in the regular season were above the 1.16 and 11.6% league averages.

Those numbers are trouble with the White Sox’s 13.8 HR/FB% finishing third in the regular season.

If Burke keeps pitching well vs. the Guardians, paired with Chicago stealing some runs by launching a hit or two over the fence, we have an angle for an upset in the series finale.

Guardians OF Steven Kwan vs. White Sox: 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs

  • We mentioned some of the Guardians’ hitters stumbling vs. Sean Burke, but that’s not the case for Steven Kwan, who sports a .308/.438/.615 slash line over 16 career plate appearances.
  • Burke primarily features a four-seam fastball (37.1%) and knuckle curve (20.1%), and Kwan bats .287 and .400 against those pitches this season.
  • He’s totaled 3 hits, 4 runs scored, and 1 RBI over four games in the ALDS.
  • Following Game 1’s 0 total for combined hits, runs, and RBIs, Kwan has recorded 2, 3, and 3 over his previous three appearances.
