Caleb Wilson NBA Draft Scouting Report
A five-star recruit and McDonald’s All-American out of Holy Innocents Episcopal School, Wilson certainly lived up to the hype in his first and only year with the Tar Heels. He played in 24 games for UNC, posting per-outing averages of 19.8 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 2.7 assists.
Verticality and explosiveness are the names of Wilson’s game. He profiles as a high-flyer above the rim at the NBA level, using his quick-twitch burst and 39.5-inch max vertical leap to finish plays with ease. On defense, he’s a springy player whose activity and instincts allow him to block shots and deflect passes to the tune of 2.9 stocks per game at UNC.
Wilson doesn’t project as a go-to offensive hub at the next level… yet. He lacks real playmaking chops as someone who’s more of a power forward, and his lack of a 3-point shot (25.9% on 1.1 attempts each night) means he’ll have to extend his arsenal beyond midrange jumpers.
Still, Wilson’s smooth movement and emphatic athleticism can’t be taught. His touch inside the arc and raw defensive tools both suggest improvement could be on the horizon if his developmental path pans out.
This writer doesn’t do comps or believe in this one, but some have loosely linked the young forward to Hall of Fame PF Kevin Garnett.
With a season-ending hand injury behind him and a quality pre-draft process working in his favor, many expect Wilson to go in the top four picks on Tuesday.

Caleb Wilson 2026 NBA Draft Prediction: Latest News & Team Fits
In the eyes of most NBA Draft pundits, the top three players in the 2026 NBA Draft are just about set in stone. In some order, it’s the trio of Kansas G Darryn Peterson, Duke F Cameron Boozer, and BYU F AJ Dybantsa that could fall off the board by the time Wilson’s name is called.
As proven countless times by the Association in years past, however, anything can happen. What could be Wilson’s top three team fits, factoring in draft slot and need? Let’s take a closer look.
Chicago Bulls (No. 4)
This one is the lowest-hanging fruit. The Chicago Bulls are finally embracing a rebuild and have their chance to select a legitimate cornerstone for their roster at pick No. 4. Wilson reportedly visited with only the Bulls pre-draft, making this the natural team to bring up.
Recently acquiring C Nic Claxton from the Brooklyn Nets shouldn’t change Chicago’s logic much. He and Wilson could coexist on the floor, and even if that doesn’t turn out to be true, the latter’s talent is so immense that it makes anyone else expendable.
F Matas Buzelis is a nice complementary piece, but the Bulls need a franchise guy. Wilson could be just that for them as they strip the rest of the team down.
Caleb Wilson Drafted by Bulls: 1.17x Yes | 4.54x No
Memphis Grizzlies (No. 3)
If Peterson and Dybantsa are the first two picks in some fashion, that leaves Boozer as the best consolation prize in recent memory. He makes a ton of sense to land with the Memphis Grizzlies, but don’t completely rule out remote interest in Wilson.
The future of PG Ja Morant looms like a dark cloud hanging over the head of the organization, yet brighter days could be ahead for the Grizzlies. Morant might just have some trade value left, and should he stay, he and wing Cedric Coward are intriguing. PF Jaren Jackson Jr. being an in-season trade to the Utah Jazz leaves a void for someone just like Wilson.
A world with Wilson and C Zach Edey gumming up the works for opposing players looking to score on the interior would be scary in the best of ways.
Caleb Wilson Drafted by Grizzlies: 10x Yes | 1.03x No
Los Angeles Clippers (No. 5, via Indiana Pacers)
It’s hard to see Wilson sliding past Chicago, so this could have to be an instance of the Los Angeles Clippers moving up for him. Packaging pick Nos. 5, 36, and 52 won’t cut it, further complicating matters.
In the spirit of having a third team, let’s keep L.A. here. The organization has multiple avenues to take regarding the 2026-27 outlook of F Kawhi Leonard, and adding PG Darius Garland at the trade deadline may have provided an alternate timeline. Additionally, there’s a sizable hole in the frontcourt now that C Ivica Zubac is with the Indiana Pacers.
Just about anything should be on the table for the Clippers here, with plenty of folks projecting a guard selection. In a chaotic scenario, Wilson would be a more than worthy pickup via a trade-up or, somehow, sheer dumb luck.
Caleb Wilson Drafted by Clippers: 11.11x Yes | 1.03x No
