As one would expect of the world No. 3, Jessica Pegula is in the midst of another excellent campaign, entering this event tied for the fourth-best win percentage (79.5%) on the WTA Tour this season. This will be her fourth final in 2026, and she was victorious in two of the previous three, lifting the trophy in Dubai and Charleston.

Following a first-round bye, Pegula dropped the first set in her opening match against Magdalena Frech but ultimately turned things around to win 3-6, 6-3, 6-0. Since that minor hiccup, the American has bounced back nicely, winning in straight sets over Anna Kalinskaya and Diana Shnaider, a pair of top-20 opponents.

On the other side, Alexandra Eala is beginning to earn a bit of a reputation as a giant killer this summer. 

In the quarterfinals, Eala defeated world No. 10 Elina Svitolina in straight sets, marking her sixth victory over a top-10 opponent this year. She followed that up with a routine victory over four-time major champion Naomi Osaka on Saturday.

Given that this is just her second tour-level final, Eala will undoubtedly be dealing with nerves on Sunday, but she does have a pair of WTA 125 titles, one of which she won in June. She should also have a good chunk of the crowd behind her despite facing an American, as she’s quickly become a crowd favorite with a strong Filipino fan base.

However, on paper, the more experienced and accomplished Pegula seems likely to win this match. She’s now 22-4 on hard courts this season, and three of those losses came against world No. 2 Elena Rybakina. Pegula also defeated Eala in their lone career meeting last season in Miami.

Per Tennis Abstract’s Elo ratings, Pegula projects to win this match 77.7% of the time.

Still, Eala’s run to this final doesn’t look like a fluke. Dating back to June, she now has wins over Rybakina, Svitolina (twice), Iga Swiatek, and Osaka. It’s possible the magic finally runs out, but Eala’s recent form suggests she can’t be counted out entirely.

In contrast, Eala largely dominated in her 6-4, 6-2 semifinal victory over Osaka, winning 74.5% of her service points.
