Patriots vs. Seahawks Prediction on Spread for Week 1 – 9/9/26
These teams had the best (Seattle) and second-best (New England) against-the-spread (ATS) records in the NFL last year. That, plus both sides being deeply familiar with each other, makes this a difficult game to read. We'll use 2025 data, offseason changes, and 2026 projections to find the side we like most.
A lot was made of the Patriots' offensive line collapse in the Super Bowl. Much of it stemmed from injuries, specifically for LT Will Campbell, who battled a month-long knee ailment. N
ew England now has a healthy Campbell to go along with C Jared Wilson and the newly acquired G Alijah Vera-Tucker, who slots into the OL as 2024’s Pro Football Focus eighth-highest-graded guard.
The Patriots also improved their receiving core, adding WR A.J. Brown from the Eagles and WR Romeo Doubs from the Packers. This immediately gives QB Drake Maye a legit WR1 and another deep threat at his disposal. The latter part is especially interesting because this offense already led the NFL in 20+ yard explosive plays in 2025.
The Patriots' defense was their "weakness" last season, as they finished 23rd in DVOA. I’m not buying that, however.
DVOA punished them heavily for an easy schedule, and New England was also banged up for much of the second half. With LB Robert Spillane and DT Milton Williams back to normal, this was and is an elite run defense, which could match up well with a Seattle team that leans on the ground game (-6.8% pass rate over expected in 2025, via nfelo).
New England also has arguably the best CB in football, Christian Gonzalez, to shadow WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

I have no concerns about Seattle in the long run but do possess a few about them in tonight’s matchup.
First, Seattle will be working with a new OC, as Brian Fleury is taking over for Klint Kubiak. This could lead to growing pains for an offense that will also be working with a new RB in rookie Jadarian Price. Price could be a featured piece with Kenneth Walker III moving on and Zach Charbonnet still recovering from injury.
Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, the Seahawks' defense boasts a slew of new faces and injuries that could create some continuity issues.
The Seahawks lost DE Boye Mafe, along with DBs Riq Woolen and Coby Bryant, in the offseason. Second-round draft DB Bud Clark was projected to step in at safety but will miss the season with an injury. The backup to him, Ty Okada, will also miss tonight’s matchup due to a hamstring injury that's prevented him from practicing.
Most importantly, do-it-all S Nick Emmanwori is in doubt while he works his way back from an ankle procedure.
A lack of availability and some personnel changes could spell trouble for this typically dominant defense in Week 1.
