With the first College Football Playoff rankings releasing on Tuesday, the Group of Six bid is getting down to the wire.

Two early-season losses to ranked squads, Houston and Texas Tech, haven't disqualified the Oregon State Beavers. They're unbeaten in conference play behind sensational freshman WR Jesse Legree, who might earn a trip to New York as a finalist for the Heisman Trophy.

With that said, upsets in these tilts tend to surface this time of the year, and Matt Entz's Fresno State crew would love to play spoiler. At 4-3, the Bulldogs still have business to attend to and eye the team's sixth bowl game in the last eight years.

Before kickoff at 11 p.m. ET on USA Network, the Beavers are modest 6.5-point road favorites against the spread, per PrizePicks.

Below, we'll break down our Oregon State vs. Fresno State prediction and picks for Saturday's college football game, including the winner, spread, and over/under for PrizePicks.

I'm not sure anyone would have guessed that we'd be talking playoffs for Oregon State after an 0-2 start, but the two Big 12 teams they lost to are competing for that conference's crown. It helps that the Beavers have run the table since those efforts.

It's very college football that the team from Corvallis, with few NIL resources, leads the nation in yards per play (7.2 YPP) in this new-look Pac-12. A lot of that comes from their skill-position talent. RB AJ Newberry is averaging 6.6 yards per carry (YPC), but I don't want to bury the lede.

WR Jesse Legree leads the country in receiving yards (1,040) and TDs (14). He is electric by the word's very definition.

On the other side of this one, Fresno State isn't going to roll over and let the Beavers waltz to a Pac-12 crown. The club has lost twice in conference play, but both were one-score tilts, and the point differential in three Pac-12 games is +10.

The Bulldogs are a respectable 57th in YPP offensively (5.6), but they've struggled a bit on defense (5.6; 76th in FBS) relative to their head coach's standards. Fresno State was 15th in the country in YPP allowed a year ago.

A 6.5-point spread here might be a surprise to many, but Fresno is 6-3 against the spread (ATS) at home under Entz, and the former North Dakota State coach was pretty unbeatable at the Fargodome in his previous tenure.

This is a "make your season" type of spot with a joyous crowd on Halloween, so don't necessarily be surprised if this one stays tight.

Oregon State vs. Fresno State Prediction on Over/Under – 10/31/26

Some prognosticators might find the 58.5-point over/under curious when Oregon State games this year, thanks to their explosive offense, are featured an average of 65.9 combined PPG. Fresno State (48.4) has played to a much more normal tenor.

Including the Big 12 schools, the Beavers just haven't played many quality defenses. Out of the six FBS squads they've faced, five rank outside the top 100 in opponent YPP allowed. The best one, Texas Tech, was 65th.

Part of that is each school having a meeting with Legree, but it's still easy to claim Fresno State, based on the aforementioned rankings, is easily the best defense they've seen all year.

These recent extreme totals are also one-sided in most respects when JaMarcus Shephard's Oregon State defense, on its own, is 56th in PPG allowed (24.2) and 38th in YPP (5.0). That's a solid bunch.

Pace isn't an extreme factor here, either. The Orangemen are 55th in seconds per play, and Fresno (110th) is even more deliberate.

The Beavers haven't played a game within 18 points since September 12th, but a tighter projected margin here could be because points might be at a premium for the CFP hopefuls — or at least more so than normal.
