Mitchell Robinson Injury Update: Is Robinson Playing Tonight vs. Spurs in NBA Finals?
According to the NBA injury report, Robinson is officially listed as questionable following surgery to repair a fracture of his right fifth metacarpal.
On Tuesday, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that Robinson is “resolute” in his desire to take the floor for Game 1 but will still need to be officially cleared by the Knicks’ training staff in order for that to happen. Robinson did participate in shooting and dribbling drills during practice on Tuesday.
The Knicks have yet to reveal how or when Robinson suffered the injury. However, Charania reported that the injury was sustained at Robinson’s home following New York's clinching of its NBA Finals berth.
Robinson has been a key piece off the bench throughout the Knicks’ playoff run, averaging 5.3 points and 5.5 rebounds in 14.2 minutes per contest.
With Robinson’s status being monitored, you can make picks on his PrizePicks projections if he does play. Popular Mitchell Robinson picks include 9 Pts + Rebs and 5 rebounds for Wednesday night.
What Players to Target on PrizePicks if Robinson Is Out in Game 1?
Robinson has been a key reserve throughout the postseason, especially in the Eastern Conference Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers. The veteran big man was a force on the glass and provided a ton of energy for the Knicks’ second unit.
Robinson is fresh off a series in which he averaged 5.8 rebounds per contest, including a series-best 10 rebounds in Game 4.
According to NBA Advanced Stats, Robinson has pulled down 64.8% of his contested rebound opportunities throughout the NBA Playoffs. That breaks down to 3.5 contested rebounds per night during the postseason.
Per databallr, Josh Hart has seen his usage increase by +2.8% when Robinson is off the court during the playoffs. In addition, Hart averages +2.6 more assists per game when he isn’t playing alongside Robinson this postseason.
Here are the Knicks players who may benefit most on PrizePicks if Robinson is out, as well as their stat projections for Wednesday.
- F OG Anunoby — 15.5 Points / 23.5 Pts+Rebs+Asts / 32.5 Fantasy Score
- G Mikal Bridges — 14.5 Points / 17.5 Pts+Asts / 1.5 3PTM
- G Josh Hart — 11.5 Points / 24.5 Pts+Rebs+Asts / 31 Fantasy Score
It’s clear that spacing improves for Mikal Bridges when Robinson isn’t on the floor. Bridges’ 3-point shooting sees an increase of +4.7% when he isn’t playing with the Knicks’ reserve center.
Bridges has arguably been one of the Knicks’ most productive players recently. Since the Eastern Conference semifinals began, Bridges has averaged 18.0 points per game and shot 60.4% from the field.
Given his success without Robinson, Bridges could be the player worth keeping an eye on leading up to Wednesday’s game.
