Will the Clippers Trade Kawhi Leonard?
As mentioned, the Clippers have quickly looked to get young. First, it was letting F Paul George walk during the 2024 free agency period. Then, Los Angeles traded G James Harden and C Ivica Zubac last season, while getting younger in the process by landing PG Darius Garland and G Bennedict Mathurin.
In the Zubac trade, the Clippers acquired the Pacers’ 2026 first-round pick. Indiana’s 19-63 record was the second-worst mark in the 2025-26 season, and its first-round selection was protected in the top four picks of the 2026 NBA Draft. Los Angeles pulled off highway robbery, with the Pacers landing the fifth selection in the NBA Lottery, meaning the pick went to the Clippers.
After selecting Illinois G Keaton Wagler with the No. 5 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, Los Angeles suddenly has a young, promising backcourt for the future. The youth movement, paired with Kawhi Leonard entering the final year of his three-year, $149.5 million contract, makes a Kawhi trade quite likely.
In fact, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported on Tuesday morning that the Clippers are not willing to offer Kawhi an extension, increasing the buzz around a Leonard trade.
With that said, a Kawhi trade could break any minute. If the Clippers ship Leonard, you can predict his next team on PrizePicks Team Picks.

Kawhi Leonard Raptors Trade Picks Up Steam, Mavericks Next in Line?
On Monday, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Kawhi is only willing to sign an extension with the Raptors if he’s traded.
That followed The Athletic’s Sunday report that Mavericks president Masai Ujiri, who acquired Leonard for the Raptors in 2018, had interest in reuniting with Kawhi. That’d be an exciting pairing with Mavericks F Cooper Flagg and 2026 draftee F Morez Johnson Jr., but this rumor has become ice-cold following the Raptors extension report.
The Spurs have also been tabbed as a team where Leonard would sign an extension, but ESPN’s Tim MacMahon reported San Antonio has no interest in trading for the veteran forward, settling with its young core of C Victor Wembanyama, G Stephon Castle, and G Dylan Harper.
The Raptors trading for Leonard is billowing smoke at this point, as Windhorst also reported he believes Toronto and Los Angeles have agreed to player compensation — including F Brandon Ingram.
In one season with the Raptors in the 2018-19 season, Leonard won the NBA Finals while averaging 26.6 points per game (PPG). Fans could finally see Kawhi in Toronto long-term, making up for his short stint nearly 10 years ago.
Furthermore, the Raptors overachieved in the 2025-26 season by pushing the Cavaliers in seven games in the first round of the NBA Playoffs. Toronto has a solid core in F Scottie Barnes and SF RJ Barrett, but it’s lacked a true go-to scorer who can take over at any moment.
Leonard comes off a resurgence in the 2025-26 season, posting a career-high 27.9 PPG while shooting 50.5% from the field and 38.7% on 3-pointers.
The Clippers need draft assets, and the Raptors own all of their first-round picks through the 2032 NBA Draft. Plus, Toronto would be landing its No. 1 scoring option alongside Barnes, who has become one of the league’s top two-way stars.
