CFB Week 3 Storylines

Texas Is Back

We hear it every year and every year the memes get a little funnier when the Longhorns Inevitably collapse against a cupcake opponent. But with their Week 2 victory against Nick Saban and Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Texas might actually be back.

It’s been over a decade since the Longhorns have been on top of anything. Not only did they beat Alabama on the road, they dominated them. There’s still plenty of time left for Texas to implode, but for now, it’s safe to say this Texas squad could be legit.

Tennessee and SEC Early Season Struggles

Alabama losing to Texas shook the CFB landscape and message boards after Week 2. But even more than that, the SEC does not appear as dominant this season as we’ve grown accustomed to in recent years.

Across the Southeastern Conference, we’ve seen shaky offensive play, poor defense, and a major lack in identity. Tennessee, who are supposed to be the best SEC team not named Georgia, is currently 2-0. But in their two wins, they haven’t really impressed anyone.

Joe Milton was supposed to pick up right where the Volunteers left off last season but has shown early signs of low confidence and poor decision making. No one in their right mind would doubt the SEC long term, but if their top talent doesn’t get it together soon, Georgia will be carrying the weight of the conference’s reputation in 2023.

Top CFB Daily Fantasy Projections and Picks

Pass Yards

Shedeur Sanders - QB, COL

Deion Sanders came into Colorado with a world of pressure to succeed as he brought in nearly an entirely new team of recruits and transfers. In Week 1 he delivered. Beating the 2022 championship runner-up, led by Sanders’s son, Shedeur, Deion proved he’s worth the hype.

Aside from Caleb Williams on USC, Shedeur has quickly thrown his name into the spotlight and Heisman discussions with huge stat lines and insane highlights in every game.

In Week 1 he threw for over 500 yards and then followed it up with another 393 in Week 2. This week, Shedeur is projected at 341.5 against in-state rival, Colorado State. Look for him to impress again as he takes center stage in Colorado.

Joe Milton - QB, TEN

In his first two starts this season, Milton has underwhelmed crowds and critics across the nation. It’s believed he can throw a football over 100 yards in a single throw, but in his first two outings in 2023, he’s barely averaged over 200 per game.

In Week 3 he faces his first conference opponent of the year, the Florida Gators in Gainesville. Tennessee is favored in this game but has historically struggled against Florida, even in their off years.

Milton is projected to throw 254.5 yards against the gators. In his last 2 games against fat inferior teams, he threw for 201 and 228. He’ll need to step up this week to make a statement against an SEC rival.

Rush Yards

Nicholas Singleton - RB, PSU

Another classic program that seems to be back this year, the Penn State Nittany Lions. Their QB, Drew Allar has been lighting up defenses and doing so efficiently. On top of that, their rushing attack is averaging over 5 yards a carry.

Leading that attack is RB Nicholas Singleton. Though he had a down week last Saturday with just 47 yards, he began the season with 70 in Week One against WVU.

This week he faces Illinois and is projected to rush for 75.5 against the conference foe.

Receiving Yards

Xavier Weaver - WR, COL

Another top talent on Deion Sanders’s Colorado team is Xavier Weaver. Averaging over 140 yards per game through 2 weeks is no small feat, especially considering their opponents.

This week, the Buffaloes take on CSU. Weaver is projected to catch for 83.5 yards, well below his season average. One thing is for sure- you don’t want to miss this electric Colorado team.

Receiving TDs

Malik Nabers - WR, LSU

The LSU Tigers took a beat down in Week One against FSU, another reason the SEC looks shaky this season. But despite that, there is still plenty of talent across the board in the conference.

Malik Nabers of LSU has caught for over 150 yards in 2 games, including a TD in Week 2. This week he’s projected at 0.5 TDs against struggling Mississippi State. Keep an eye on the Tigers WRs in Week 3.
