Louisville remains ranked at #24 nationally despite the close defeat at the hands of Ole Miss.

After a rough open to the outing, new QB Lincoln Kienholz came to life in his first collegiate start, completing 18 of 29 passes for 307 yards and 2 TDs while adding 69 rushing yards and another score.

Kienholz's performance should give Louisville plenty of confidence moving forward. The Ohio State transfer showed impressive arm strength and mobility, and he helped Louisville rally from a 14-point fourth-quarter deficit to tie the game at 38.

Despite Kienholz’s success, the Cardinals' identity remains embedded in their run game and RB Isaac Brown. Brown averaged an absurd 8.8 yards per carry last season and was one of the most explosive runners in college football as a freshman.

Brown's 2026 opener wasn't particularly efficient, as he managed 36 rushing yards on 16 carries. This matchup against an FCS opponent could give Louisville a better opportunity to establish its identity.

Elsewhere, Villanova opened the season with a 35-32 loss to William & Mary before bouncing back with a 17-16 triumph vs. Bucknell. Villanova reached the FCS semifinals last season after going 12-3, so this isn't your typical lower-division opponent.

The Wildcats are led by senior QB Pat McQuaide, an experienced pocket passer who has thrown for more than 7,000 career yards. This season, McQuaide has completed 30 of 50 passes for 488 yards and 3 TDs, but concerningly, he's already thrown 3 INTs.

Villanova also has a productive one-two punch at RB with Isaiah Ragland and Ja'briel Mace. The duo has combined for 265 rushing yards through two games, and the Wildcats' offensive line has been one of the strengths of the team.
