Week 1 of the NFL season went off with a bang. Nine games had 45 or more points, 11 teams scored 30 or more points, and one team tallied 59 points.

With all that scoring, some potential fantasy football stars emerged over the week, including potential trade targets for your fantasy football team. We’ll look at three you should be looking to add to your roster ahead of Week 2.

On the contrary, if some players overperformed expectations or did not impact their team’s offense, it could be time to sell them now.

Saints QB Tyler Shough – Buy

Week 2 Matchup: @ Ravens

If we had started writing about Shough before the fourth quarter in his Week 1 matchup against the Lions, he wouldn't have gotten a mention — but 15 minutes can change a player's outlook. 

In the first half, Shough went 10-for-22 with 110 passing yards. Whatever adjustments the Saints made at halftime brought Shough to life. He went 25-for-39 for 325 passing yards and 3 TDs in the second half and overtime, erasing a 21-point deficit.

Shough showed off his value at the end of last season, finishing as the QB5 from Weeks 14-18. He brought that into this season, finishing Week 1 as the QB6.

This offense isn’t even at full strength, with RB Alvin Kamara and WR Jordyn Tyson both out due to injuries. WR Chris Olave showed why he’s one of the game’s top-paid receivers, finishing with 182 receiving yards on 10 catches.

Shough has a favorable schedule coming up, with six of his next eight games against defenses that allowed at least 15 fantasy points to quarterbacks in Week 1.

Panthers WR Jalen Coker – Buy

Week 2 Matchup: @ Falcons

The Panthers played in the highest-scoring game on Sunday, losing 59-37 to the Bears. 

With the Bears focused on shutting down Panthers WR Tetairoa McMillan, Coker was involved in Carolina’s offense, leading the team in routes (40), targets (9), receptions (8), and receiving yards (138). This is especially notable considering how Coker finished last season, with a 9-134-1 line vs. the Rams in the Playoffs, and a TD in four of his last six games.

Next week, the Panthers face the Falcons, who ranked 24th in fantasy points allowed per game to wide receivers (22.2). Then, in Week 3, the Panthers play the Browns, who allowed Jaguars slot WR Parker Washington to post 83 receiving yards and 1 TD in the first half in Week 1. Coker lined up mostly in the slot in Week 1 (40%).

McMillan will still likely be Panthers QB Bryce Young’s top option, but with Coker’s speed and big-play ability, he will have a critical role for the reigning NFC South champions.

It's worth noting that Coker was seen in a walking boot on Monday after injuring his ankle in Sunday's loss, which could put his Week 2 status in jeopardy. We'll know more once we get into practice reports this week though early indications are that he could still play this week.

49ers RB Kaleon Black – Buy

Week 2 Matchup: vs. Dolphins

If you have 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey, you likely drafted him in the first round. After Week 1, there's an unsettling feeling. That’s because Black was heavily involved in San Francisco’s Week 1 win over the Rams.

McCaffrey led the team with a 55% snap share, but Black was not far behind at 43% and led the team with 14 carries.

Trying to decipher 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan’s game plan for running backs is like taking an eye exam while blindfolded. In the past, he has heavily favored a running back for one game, only to rarely use them after that. Remember former 49ers RB Tevin Coleman in 2019? The situation with Black might be different.

Black is a potential target because Shanahan may be trying to preserve CMC. Last year, McCaffrey led the league with 421 touches; given his injury history, Shanahan might be thinking long-term and lighten his workload.

Shanahan also said after the Week 1 win against the Rams that he was encouraged by Black’s performance; that means the rookie running back could have a role in the offense. If McCaffrey gets hurt, then Black could become the RB1.

Fantasy Football Sell High Players – Week 2

Here are some key players to sell high on for fantasy football ahead of Week 2, plus their projections on PrizePicks this week.

Falcons WR Drake London, TE Kyle Pitts – Sell

Week 2 Matchup: vs. Panthers

We’re doing a 2-for-1 deal because you need to be warned about the Falcons offense.

Heading into the season, the Falcons had a questionable quarterback situation. Falcons QBs Tua Tagovailoa and Michael Penix Jr. competed throughout training camp. However, with Penix Jr. not fully recovered from the knee injury he suffered last year, Tagovailoa was named the Week 1 starter.

Just days before the Falcons’ Week 1 matchup against the Steelers, Tagovailoa suffered an oblique injury, forcing Atlanta to start third-string QB Cooper Rush. 

Rush managed only 143 passing yards, with London accounting for 29 of them, and the wide receiver finishing with just 5.5 fantasy points. Rush was unable to throw the ball downfield, and London ranked 93rd in the league in average depth of targets (8.7).

London at least had some production; Pitts was nonexistent with 0 catches on 0 targets.

If Tagovailoa and Penix are not ready to return, you cannot trust anyone on the Falcons offense besides RB Bijan Robinson.

Bengals TE Mike Gesicki – Sell

Week 2 Matchup: vs. Texans

Maybe you picked up Gesicki because you needed to stream a tight end after the Raiders announced that TE Brock Bowers would miss time due to a procedure on his knee. If you grabbed Gesicki, the decision paid off well, as he went for 5-78-1 vs. the Bucs, in what continues to be a targetable matchup for opposing tight ends.

This might be the time to sell him at his peak and secure a solid return. In the Week 1 win over the Buccaneers, Gesicki was only on the field for 21 of the 64 offensive plays and ran 17 routes. For context, TE Drew Sample was on the field for 42 snaps.

It has a lot to do with Cincinnati's offensive scheme. They typically run 11 personnel, which is a lineup featuring one running back, one tight end, and three wide receivers on the field. Usually, that tight end serves as a blocker, which is why Sample plays many of the snaps.

We saw rare dud performances from Bengals WRs Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, who combined for 71 receiving yards. Chase and Higgins should bounce back, which could lead to a regression in Gesicki’s production.

49ers WR Demarcus Robinson – Sell

Week 2 Matchup: vs. Dolphins

With the 49ers cruising to a 27-7 win over the Rams in Australia, it was surprising to see Robinson lead the team with 50 receiving yards, including a 39-yard TD.

His touchdown catch was his lone highlight of the game; Robinson’s 3 targets were behind RB Christian McCaffrey (8), WR Mike Evans (7), WR Deebo Samuel Sr. (7), and TE George Kittle (5). 49ers QB Brock Purdy spread the ball in this matchup, with 8 players recording a reception. 

The injury to WR De’Zhaun Stribling will move Robinson up the pecking order. However, we saw in Week 1 that Purdy has his favorite targets, so we cannot rely on Robinson to have a big touchdown grab every week.

Even if he does slot in for Stribling, it's hard to see him getting the volume he needs this deep down in the pecking order.
