Cooper Flagg Injury Update: Will Flagg Play Monday vs. Heat?

Flagg has been diagnosed with a left shoulder sprain following his injury against Indiana when Pacers F Aaron Nesmith committed a flagrant foul at the rim. Flagg landed hard on his shoulder and ultimately didn’t return to the game.

Flagg also missed the team’s home opener against the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday. According to Dallas Sports Journal’s Grant Afseth, the Mavericks star was seen getting some work in at the team’s morning shootaround on Monday.

Ahead of Monday night's bout in South Beach, Flagg is listed as questionable for the contest. The Mavericks host the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday, so there's a world where Flagg sits out another game to rest his shoulder.

If Flagg misses Monday’s game, we’ll explore what his absence means for Mavericks player picks on PrizePicks.

Mavericks Players to Target on PrizePicks vs. Heat

The Mavericks were unable to overcome Flagg’s absence in Saturday’s loss against the Spurs. With that said, rookie G Sergio de Larrea scored a team-high 21 points on 9-of-15 shooting off the bench, while F P.J. Washington added 12 points and 4 rebounds.

Flagg was selected with the top pick in the 2025 NBA Draft after a standout 2024-25 season at Duke. The star averaged 21.0 PPG, 6.7 RPG, and 4.5 APG in 70 games during his debut campaign, earning the NBA’s Rookie of the Year Award.

Flagg got off to a strong start with 32 points (10-of-17 shooting) and 5 rebounds in a 128-110 loss to the Houston Rockets in the Mavericks’ season opener. He also scored 14 points on 4-of-6 shooting with 6 assists and 5 rebounds in 17 minutes against the Pacers before leaving late in the second quarter.

Here are some of the top Mavericks players to consider for Monday, along with their best projections on PrizePicks.

  • Kyrie Irving vs. Heat: 21.5 Points | 29 Pts + Rebs + Asts | 1.5 3-PT Made
  • P.J. Washington vs. Heat: 14.5 Points | 21.5 Pts + Rebs | 1.5 3-PT Made
  • Daniel Gafford vs. Heat: 8.5 Points | 6.5 Rebounds (Goblin)

Should Flagg be held out of the lineup again, that could increase usage for Washington and PG Kyrie Irving. After all, Washington has averaged 14.0 PPG and 7.0 RPG this year, including producing 20 points and 13 rebounds against the Pacers.
