Anthony Edwards Injury Update: Will Edwards Play Today vs. Cavaliers?
After playing in over 70 games in his first five seasons, Anthony Edwards played a career-low 61 games last season, making him ineligible for season-long awards.
He battled several knee injuries, missing 11 of the final 14 regular-season games from a right knee setback. Plus, he suffered an injury to his left knee and missed two of 12 playoff games in the 2025-26 campaign.
Before the season tipped off, Ant discussed how he recovered from the knee injuries over the offseason.
Edwards is currently questionable for tonight vs. the Cavaliers due to right knee injury management. Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic reported on Sunday night that Edwards was unavailable for pressers after the game due to treatment for his knee, and Krawczynski stated, “My guess is it could go either way,” regarding Monday’s availability.
Considering Edwards’ knee issues last season, the Timberwolves could play it safe — especially on the second night of a back-to-back. If Edwards is out, plenty of shots will be available, as he leads the team with 28.7 points per game (PPG) and 23.3 field goal attempts per game.
Timberwolves Players to Target vs. Cavaliers: Back LaMelo Ball?
Minnesota hasn’t been shy about leaning on its top scorer; his 23.3 shots per contest leads the team by a wide margin, with G LaMelo Ball’s 12.7 field goal attempts per contest as the second-highest total.
According to NBA.com, Edwards has a massive 35.2% usage rate, followed by Ball (26.0%), G Jaylen Clark (20.0%), and G Terrence Shannon Jr. (18.2%). When Edwards has been off court, G Ayo Dosunmu (+6.5%), Shannon (+5.38), and C Rudy Gobert (+4.03%) see the largest increases in usage rates, via FantasyLabs.
Dosunmu and Shannon will see minutes increase if Ant is out. Both players stepped up last postseason, including 43- and 25-point outings from Dosunmu in the first round, while Shannon logged two 20+ point performances over nine 2026 playoff outings.
As mentioned, Ball is second on the team in both usage rate and shots per game. His 16.0 PPG is also second, and he had his best shooting performance of the season by making 5 of 8 field goal attempts and 4 of 5 3-point attempts with 15 points in 17 minutes vs. the Raptors on Sunday.
Here are the Timberwolves players to consider for Monday, including each player’s best projections on PrizePicks.
- LaMelo Ball vs. Cavaliers: 19.5 Points | 31.5 Pts + Rebs + Asts | 3.5 3-pointers Made (Demon)
- Ayo Dosunmu vs. Cavaliers: 12.5 Points | 20.5 Pts + Rebs + Asts | 4.5 Field Goals Made
Dosunmu would likely enter the starting lineup if Edwards is out. Meanwhile, Ball has only 22.7 minutes per game thus far, but that’s likely due to an average score margin of +23.3 points per game from the Wolves.
According to PrizePicks, the Timberwolves are 4.5-point underdogs for the spread vs. the Cavaliers. This is likely assuming Edwards is out, and that should mean a more competitive game with Ball seeing elevated minutes on Monday night.
