Beckham was one of the top stories at Saturday’s training camp practice, highlighted by reeling in a contested touchdown from QB Jameis Winston.
It was a nice moment for Giants fans to reflect on Beckham’s prime, when he surpassed 1,300 receiving yards in three consecutive seasons from 2014 to 2016 in New York. However, we are 10 years removed from that stretch, and OBJ hasn’t cracked 1,000 yards since 2019.
Frankly, New York fans should probably keep expectations tempered. Beckham is primarily working with backups at training camp, as he’s firmly competing for a roster spot.
Above OBJ on the depth chart, Malik Nabers, Darius Slayton, Darnell Mooney, Calvin Austin III, and Malachi Fields are expected to take on key wide receiver roles in the 2026 season. Next up are JuJu Smith-Schuster, Isaiah Hodgins, Braxton Berrios, Jalin Hyatt, and Beckham, all competing for roster spots.
According to Giants insider Jordan Raanan, OBJ has been circled as the “leader in the clubhouse” to make the roster. Saturday’s “play of the day” further aided his chances to suit up for the G-Men in 2026, but will he truly make an impact?

How Could Odell Beckham Jr. Impact the Giants in 2026?
After receiving a six-game suspension for PEDs, Beckham went unsigned and did not play in one game in 2025.
In the 2024 season, Beckham made only nine appearances and did not start one game for the Dolphins. That led to very few opportunities, including 18 targets for 9 receptions and 55 receiving yards on the season.
That followed his 2023 campaign with the Ravens, when OBJ posted 64 targets, 35 receptions, and 565 receiving yards over 14 games. The 2021 season brought similar numbers, featuring 44 catches for 537 receiving yards, but that campaign ended with the Rams WR tearing his ACL in Super Bowl LVI vs. the Bengals.
After the major knee injury, Beckham would not play in 2022. Over the previous four seasons, OBJ has participated in just 23 games with a total of 620 receiving yards.
If Beckham does make the roster, he’s likely to come off the bench in a limited role, assuming he sees any snaps. When we last saw the veteran receiver with the Dolphins, he carried a low 20.1% snap share (164th) in Miami, per PlayerProfiler.
Beckham’s path to playing time is only looking more difficult, as Malik Nabers could be on track to play in Week 1 following last season’s torn ACL. Plus, third-round rookie WR Malachi Fields has turned some heads at training camp.
OBJ’s main goal may simply be making the roster. After inking the one-year deal in New York, he spoke with the New York Post, “It’s a place I never wanted to leave. And it’s just a special place in my heart, just to see all of these Big Blue jerseys — just hoping for the best.”
According to FantasyPros’ consensus fantasy football draft rankings, Beckham is WR160 for PPR (point per reception) leagues.
Once again, expectations should be kept in check for OBJ. The 33-year-old wideout who hasn’t made a real impact since 1,035 receiving yards with the Browns in 2019 is unlikely to become a star target once again — or even a starter.
