- The Jaguars deployed a pass-heavy offense last season, leaving Lawrence to rank third in dropbacks and sixth in pass attempts.
- The sixth-year quarterback should have his full complement of receivers available Sunday against the Broncos. WR Brian Thomas Jr. (shoulder) is expected to play.

Why Start Jordan Love?

- Love did his part in Sunday’s 39-22 loss to the Vikings, throwing for 387 yards and 2 TDs. He completed 7 passes of at least 20 yards, including 3 that went for at least 40 yards. However, turnovers were a downside with 1 INT and 1 lost fumble.
- With RB Josh Jacobs on the commissioner’s exempt list, Love attempted 42 passes. He only had two games with at least 40 pass attempts last season.
- The 27-year-old had an 11.5 aDOT vs. the Vikings. Last year, his 9.2 aDOT was eighth in the NFL.
- With Love attempting plenty of deep passes, he recorded at least 48 completions of at least 20 yards in each of the last three seasons.

Week 2 Start ‘Em, Sit ‘Em Verdict: Start Jordan Love
Lawrence has a difficult Week 2 matchup against the Broncos. Although they allowed 31 points to the Chiefs in Week 1, it was their rush defense that let them down. They limited Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes to 184 yards and 2 passing TDs, while also generating an INT. Mahomes completed just 15 of 27 pass attempts.
Last year, the Broncos allowed the second-lowest completion rate (57.8%) in the NFL. According to RBSDM, Denver was ninth in EPA per dropback allowed. The front seven put pressure on quarterbacks, recording the most sacks (68) in the NFL.
Love has a better matchup against the Jets, who are coming off a 23-10 Week 1 victory over the Titans. It’s difficult to be excited about limiting Titans QB Cam Ward to 140 passing yards and 1 TD. Ward wasn’t exactly airing things out, recording a 5.3 aDOT, and he was 28th in that category last season.
In 2025, the Jets’ defense was dead last in EPA per dropback allowed. Their 36 passing TDs allowed were the most in the league, while their 26 sacks were the second-fewest. New York was also the only team that didn’t record a single INT.
The Packers could continue to deploy a pass-heavy offensive scheme with Jacobs sidelined. The potential for Love to have many pass attempts against a porous Jets defense makes him the superior play over Lawrence, who could stumble against the stingy Broncos’ secondary.
