We’re only one week into the college football season, and the rankings shake-up has already started. Ohio State grabbed the No. 1 spot after knocking off Texas; now Week 2 brings us some key games, including one top 25 ranked game — No. 15 Michigan vs. No. 18 Oklahoma — plus plenty of rivalry games.

  • Iowa State QB Rocco Becht threw for 183 pass yards in the Week 0 matchup against Kansas State and 278 yards against FCS program South Dakota State in Week 1.
  • Becht threw for less than 236 passing yards in three of his final four regular-season games in 2024.
  • Becht threw for 272 yards in last year’s matchup against Iowa.
  • A big chunk of those yards came from a 75-yard touchdown pass to WR Jaylin Noel, who is now in the NFL.
  • Iowa was 44th in passing yards allowed last season (209.0).
  • The Cyclones could be shifting more towards the run. Last year, they ran on 51.67% of their offensive plays; this season, it is 58.97%.

Virginia Tech QB Kyron Drones Projection: 221.5 Passing Yards

Vanderbilt vs. Virginia Tech Pick – 7:30 p.m. ET

  • Virginia Tech QB Kyron Drones threw for 221 yards in the 24-11 loss to South Carolina.
  • Drones passed for a career-high 322 yards last season against Vanderbilt.
  • Vanderbilt was 111th in passing yards allowed (252.8) in 2024.
  • Drones had 8 completions of 20 or more yards in last season’s game against Vanderbilt.
  • Vanderbilt was 112th in 20+ passing yard plays allowed in 2024 (46).

Arizona State RB Kyson Brown Projection: 62.5 Rushing Yards

Arizona State vs. Mississippi State Pick – 7:30 p.m. ET

  • Arizona State RB Kyson Brown ran for 73 yards on 7 carries in the Week 1 win against Northern Arizona.
  • Brown had the second-most rushing yards among Arizona State RBs last year with 351. Last year’s rushing leader, RB Cam Skattebo, is now in the NFL.
  • As a native of Tupelo, Miss., this is a homecoming for Brown. He will have about 50 friends and family for the game against Mississippi State.
  • Even though Arizona State QB Sam Leavitt likes to run the ball (110 rushes for 443 yards in 2024), there should still be plenty of opportunities for Brown for RB1.

Kentucky RB Seth McGowan Projection: 60.5 Rushing Yards

  • Kentucky RB Seth McGowan ran for 78 yards in the 24-16 win against Toledo in Week 1.
  • Although his 18 carries led the team, RB Dante Dowdell only had 4 fewer carries and QB Zach Calzada had 8 fewer.
  • Dowdell was the better-performing running back in that game with 129 rushing yards.
  • For the matchup against Toledo, the depth chart revealed Dowdell “or” McGowan as the starter, meaning these two could continue to split carries.
  • Mississippi had the best run defense in the league last season, allowing 85.1 rushing yards per game.

Oregon RB Noah Whittington Projection: 19.5 Longest Rush

Oklahoma State vs. Oregon Pick – 3:30 p.m. ET

  • Oregon RB Noah Whittington led the team with 68 rushing yards in the win against FCS program Montana State.
  • Whittington ran a max speed of 20.8 miles per hour, resulting in a team-high 35-yard run.
  • Whittington had a 20-yard run in three of his final four regular-season games last year.
  • Oklahoma State finished 128th in rushing yards allowed per game (223.4)
  • Oklahoma State allowed 17 runs of 20 yards or more last year (129th).

Arizona St. WR Jordyn Tyson Projection: 98.5 Receiving Yards
