Victor Wembanyama Injury Update vs. Lakers in NBA Cup

The Spurs officially listed Wembanyama as out for Monday’s game as he continues to recover from a calf strain.

Wembanyama is currently accompanying the Spurs on their road trip and participated in a full practice on Sunday, according to the San Antonio Express News. In addition, Wemby also worked out following San Antonio’s shootaround on Monday and warmed up prior to the team’s game that night against the New Orleans Pelicans.

Wembanyama originally suffered the injury on Nov. 14 against the Golden State Warriors and reports suggested the recovery to be a period of two-to-three weeks.

Prior to the calf strain last month, Wembanyama was in the midst of an impressive campaign. The Spurs star has compiled averages of 26.2 points, 12.9 rebounds, 4.0 assists per game — all of which are career highs — adding 3.6 blocks per game along the way.

Target Stephon Castle With Victor Wembanyama Out?

  • With Wembanyama sidelined tonight, there are a few Spurs that could see increased production.
  • Spurs C Luke Kornet is likely to continue to serve as the team’s starting center.
  • Since Wembanyama went down on Nov. 14, Kornet has logged 26.6 minutes per contest and has played at least 28 minutes in six of those games.
  • During that stretch, the veteran big man is averaging 6.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per contest.
  • Kornet will be matched up with veteran C Deandre Ayton on Wednesday and is projected for 7.5 points and 7 rebounds (14.5 Pts+Rebs) vs. the Lakers on PrizePicks NBA.
  • With Wembanyama still out of the lineup, Spurs G Stephon Castle can continue to pick up where he left prior to suffering a hip injury last month.
  • In his return to the court on Monday vs. the Pelicans, Castle scored 18 points on 5-of-15 shooting, while securing five rebounds and dishing out five assists.
  • After winning the NBA Rookie of the Year Award last season, Castle has continued to improve his game in 2025-26. The Spurs G is averaging 17.4 points, 7.4 assists, and 5.8 rebounds per game, while shooting 48.2% from the field.
  • Castle has topped the 18-point mark in three of his last five games dating back to Nov. 10.
