A few weeks ago, the Wednesday, August 12 showdown between the Toronto Tempo and Dallas Wings looked like it had the makings of a dogfight between two fiery opponents. Although neither side has managed to hold up its end of the bargain since then, there’s still some intrigue lingering.

Heading into the 8 p.m. ET bout on USA Network, Dallas is a considerable 9.5-point home favorite on PrizePicks Team Picks and returns a 1.2x payout with an outright win. With Toronto in freefall mode, can the Wings take care of business and remain in the thick of the postseason race?

Tempo vs. Wings Prediction, Spread, Over/Under – Wednesday, August 12

In their debut campaign as an expansion franchise, the Tempo got off to a respectable start under head coach Sandy Brondello. Eighteen games into the season, Toronto sat at an even 9-9 and looked like it could potentially compete for a playoff spot.

Since then, unfortunately, it’s been tough sledding for the Tempo. They’ve won just once in their last 14 games, holding a staggering -196 point differential in that span. Defense has been a massive red flag for Toronto, as its 117.8 rating ranks dead last on the year.

Limited availability from standout G Brittney Sykes (15 games, 20.1 PPG) has hurt the Tempo, but All-Star G Marina Mabrey (20.7 PPG) is doing her best to keep the team afloat. The rest of the roster, however, is faltering.

Now on their third head coach in as many years, the Wings’ ascension is real this time around. Dallas has nearly doubled its win total from a year ago already, going from 10-34 in 2025 to 19-14 entering Wednesday’s game. Although the club is 1-5 in its last six games, this stretch came on the heels of a lava-hot 7-1 streak.

The straw that stirs the drink for the Wings is G Paige Bueckers, who does a little bit of everything on the offensive end. She’s supported by a trio of players (G Azzi Fudd, F Jessica Shepard, and G Arike Ogunbowale) pouring in 13+ PPG, although one member of that group is out on Wednesday and another is questionable.

Dallas’ cold spell hasn’t impacted its playoff outlook much, as the team is a whopping 5.5 games ahead of the Portland Fire for the last of eight available slots. The Wings are just a pair of games back of tying the Indiana Fever for fourth overall, too.

These two squads played twice in a six-day span back in July, when the Wings took a pair of outings in Toronto and won by 13 points each time. Bueckers went off for a combined 56 points in those clashes.

Tempo vs. Wings Prediction on Spread – 8/12/26

Here are the key game stats and trends behind our Tempo vs. Wings prediction on the spread for Wednesday, August 12’s game.

  • When serving as home favorites, Dallas is 4-4 against the spread. In the road underdog role, Toronto is 10-5 ATS.
  • Pace could be a big-time factor in this one. No offense jacks up more shots than Dallas on a nightly basis (71.7), and only three defenses give up more than Toronto (70.5).
  • The battle of the third quarter may swing the outcome of the game. The Wings come out of the halftime locker room on fire, leading the sport in scoring (24.1 PPG). The Tempo have the W’s single-worst scoring defense in the third frame at 25.1 PPG.
  • Limiting second chances is the name of the game for Dallas. It sits fourth in net rating from defensive rebounds (+1.3); Toronto is 15th out of 15 teams at -3.8.
  • A leaky interior defense could doom the Tempo, which rank 11th with a 65.8% field goal allowance at the rim, per databallr. Dallas shoots 67.6% at the rim, good for fifth.

Make Tempo vs. Wings Picks on PrizePicks

Toronto’s recent struggles have made it one of the toughest watches in the sport as of late, but Mabrey and Co. can usually count on some fight on the offensive end. Could that be enough to hang in there with one of the W’s top playmakers and scorers in Bueckers?
