Sparks vs. Liberty Prediction, Spread, Over/Under – Thursday, August 13

At one point, it seemed that the Sparks were on track to improve over their 21-23 record from a season ago. Since a 7-6 start to the year, however, head coach Lynne Roberts’ crew has experienced an ugly 5-14 skid, capped off by trading star G Kelsey Plum to the Phoenix Mercury at the deadline.

The forward duo of Nneka Ogwumike (17.1 PPG) and Dearica Hamby (15.3 PPG) has attempted to pick up the pieces, but things just aren’t going well for L.A. The group has lost nine of its last 11 contests and owns one of the W’s worst defensive units.

On the other side of the floor, the Liberty sit 20-14 on the year and are eyeing a postseason appearance under first-year head coach Chris DeMarco. Since the All-Star break, New York is 5-2, including a pair of double-digit victories. The leader of the pack is F Breanna Stewart, whose 21.3 PPG sits fourth in the league.

Heading into Thursday’s play, the Liberty occupy the eighth and final projected playoff spot but are in a three-way tie with the Washington Mystics and Dallas Wings. They’re also within 1.5 games of the Atlanta Dream and Indiana Fever, so climbing up the ranks isn’t out of the question.

This is the third and final time L.A. and New York will have squared off in the 2026 WNBA season. The two sides split their bouts on June 21 and July 28, with the Sparks taking the first bout 98-97 and the Liberty emerging with a 113-109 triumph late last month.

Sparks vs. Liberty Prediction on Spread – 8/13/26

Here are the key game stats and trends behind our Sparks vs. Liberty prediction on the spread for Thursday, August 13’s game.

  • New York has done an impressive job protecting its own court in 2026, ranking third with an 8-7 against-the-spread record as home favorites.
  • The Liberty routinely take advantage of good looks offensively and prevent them from opening up defensively. Per databallr, their net rating from shooting efficiency (+5.4) is fourth leaguewide to the Sparks’ No. 12 ranking (-2.8).
  • DeMarco’s crew is uber-efficient inside the arc, evidenced by a 55.1% 2-point conversion rate. That’s second in the Association, which could be quite problematic against the sport’s worst 2-point defense (56.5%).
  • Although L.A. is a respectable free throw shooting team at 78.4%, no team sends opponents to the line at a smaller frequency than New York (26.0% FT rate).
  • Los Angeles could have a tough time securing boards on Thursday. It sits 13th in average rebounds (39.6) and 10th in per-game allowance (42.7), but New York is third (43.6) and first (38.6).

Liberty F Breanna Stewart vs. Sparks: 31 Pts + Rebs

  • Stewart’s scoring and rebounding average of 29.7 has decreased to 27.4 in her last five contests.
  • The two-time WNBA MVP has never been a premier 3-point shooter, but her 26.7% mark in 2026 is well below her career clip of 34.3%.
  • A top foul-drawer in the sport, Stewart goes to the line 7.0 times per game. That number may not be quite as high vs. Los Angeles, which ranks seventh with a free throw to field goal attempt ratio of 0.293.
  • Stewart’s 6.3% offensive rebounding share is the highest of her illustrious WNBA tenure, topping her previous best of 6.0% in 2017 with the Seattle Storm.

Liberty G Sabrina Ionescu vs. Sparks: 29 Pts + Rebs + Asts

  • Ionescu is a middling defensive rebounder (11.8%, 50th percentile) but a relative non-factor on the offensive glass (2.9%, 33rd percentile).
  • The veteran guard is prone to coughing up the rock, backed up by her scoring turnovers (2.7) and bad-pass turnovers (1.6) per 100 possessions slotting into the respective 22nd and 25th percentiles.
Add Sabrina Ionescu to your PrizePicks Lineup now.

With the bottom of the playoff standings being crowded mid-month, this remains a critical game for New York despite facing an inferior opponent. After trading Plum away, Los Angeles has continued its fall, but this team can never be fully counted out in hostile territory.
