Reds vs. Dodgers Prediction, Winner, Over/Under – Wednesday, September 9

The Reds and Dodgers are on completely opposite ends of the spectrum as the regular season winds down.

Of course, Los Angeles is chasing a three-peat as the favorite to win the World Series, featuring a 3.03x payout to win the MLB championship on PrizePicks. It continues to chase the Brewers for the top seed in the National League, currently sitting only 1.5 games behind first.

In 2025, Cincy appeared in the playoffs for the first time since 2020. The Reds will not be making a return this season, as they were mathematically eliminated from the playoffs last week.

Cincinnati drew a brutal schedule to cap the the final month of the regular season, battling the Cubs, Padres, and Brewers in three-game series from August 28 to September 6.

Following this ongoing series, the Redlegs battle the Brewers, Dodgers, Cubs, and Braves over their next four series. If Cincinnati were still alive for the playoffs, it would be highly unlikely to make a true postseason push with this kind of schedule.

The Reds have at least been competitive enough to make for some interesting games vs. the dominant Dodgers, with Cincy winning its last three series 2-1 vs. the Cubs, Padres, and Brewers.

However, that hasn’t been enough against Los Angeles — which won the first two matchups, 6-3 and 3-2. Another low run total may be in line for the Reds, as Dodgers SP Yoshinobu Yamamoto (2.67 ERA, 3.04 xERA in 25 GS) will be on the bump.

Cincinnati is countering with SP Rhett Lowder (5.43 ERA, 5.19 xERA in 22 GS), putting obvious stress on the Reds’ batting order to carry the load on Wednesday night.

Reds vs. Dodgers Winner Payout, Over/Under – Wednesday, September 9

Despite being an underdog in the last 10 games, the Reds carry a 5-5 record in the split. Cincinnati has another tall mountain to climb, as the Dodgers have a 1.31x payout to win tonight.

Here are the full payouts for the Reds vs. Dodgers game on Wednesday, September 9, per PrizePicks.

Reds vs. Dodgers Prediction on Over/Under – 9/9/26

Cincinnati was fortunate to face SP Emmet Sheehan (5.08 ERA, 3.90 xERA in 21 GS) in Game 1 of the series, leading to 9 combined runs and an over. However, the Reds close this series against the Dodgers’ top dogs, Tarik Skubal and Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

Skubal gave up 4 hits and 2 earned runs in 7.1 innings pitched on Tuesday, leading to an under with 5 combined runs in the matchup. Yamamoto comes off one of his worst starts of the season, in which he yielded 4 earned runs and 2 home runs in 7.0 innings.

According to FanGraphs, the 2025 World Series MVP allows a 12.1% home run-to-fly ball rate (HR/FB) that’s above the 11.6% league average. Baseball Savant also suggests Yamamoto might be human — proven by a 6.5% barrel rate (68th percentile) and 36.9% hard-hit rate allowed.

Believe it or not, the Reds sport MLB’s highest team barrel rate (9.5%), a step above the Yankees (9.4%) with a league-best 3.6% home run rate. Cincy’s 1.34 home runs per game (third) are exceptional, but this has jumped to 1.8 over the last five games.

Backed by baseball’s best batting average over the last 14 days (.286), there’s a real angle for the Redlegs to make Yamamoto pay

It doesn’t take much convincing when considering Rhett Lowder’s struggles. He’s surrendered at least 3 earned runs in four straight starts and carries a 6.65 ERA in the split.

As expected for a starter holding a high ERA, he’s stumbled against power by giving up 1.24 HR/9. The Dodgers carry a .256 batting average (tied for second), .331 wOBA (second), and .419 SLG (third).

In the last 10 games, the Reds logged 5.2 runs per game compared to the Dodgers’ 5.1 during the span.

Reds vs. Dodgers Picks, Player Stats for PrizePicks – 9/9/26

Here are the top Reds vs. Dodgers picks to target on PrizePicks for Wednesday, September 9. Tonight’s MLB picks for PrizePicks include Elly De La Cruz and Teoscar Hernandez.

Reds SS Elly De La Cruz vs. Dodgers: 5.5 Hitter Fantasy Score

  • This could be a grudge match for the Reds, as teams like the Dodgers are why extending Elly De La Cruz looks less and less likely.
  • He’s displayed his worth in this series, from clocking a 105.3 mph throw to home plate to recording 2 hits and 1 home run in back-to-back contests.
  • De La Cruz is scorching in September, posting multiple hits in six straight games, launching a big fly in four consecutive contests, and touting an absurd .500/.548/1.000 slash line over seven matchups.
  • As mentioned, Yamamoto’s 36.9% hard-hit rate (62nd percentile) draws some concern, and Elly has a .495 xSLG (92nd percentile), 15.5% barrel rate (95th percentile), and 52.6% hard-hit rate (95th percentile).
  • After recording a 20.4 hitter fantasy score per game over his last five games, more success could be ahead for De La Cruz.

Dodgers OF Teoscar Hernandez vs. Reds: 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs

  • Despite consistent struggles, Rhett Lowder has finished the fifth inning in seven of his past eight starts. That should mean multiple at-bats for the Dodgers’ lineup.
  • Not all is well in Los Angeles, as DH Shohei Ohtani has struggled to stay on the field and has 2 hits over his previous 26 at-bats (.077). However, Teoscar Hernandez is a clear bright spot right now.
  • Over eight games in September, Hernandez sports a .483/.571/.759 slash line, and he posted 5 hits in 6 at-bats vs. the Reds.
  • The Dodgers’ outfielder is driving in runs at an absurd rate, totaling 10 RBIs in his last six contests (1.7 per game).
  • Lowder’s Savant page is icy-blue, featuring a 9.5% barrel rate allowed (16th percentile). Hernandez has plenty of power with a 10.7% barrel rate (70th percentile) and 45.0% hard-hit rate (73rd percentile).
Add Teoscar Hernandez to your PrizePicks lineup now.
