Lions Draft Rumors: Will Detroit Trade Up to Draft Top OL Prospect?

On Wednesday, NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported a run of offensive linemen could be selected between picks 10 and 14 in the 2026 NFL Draft. An offensive tackle has been circled as the Detroit Lions’ top draft need.

With the Lions holding the No. 17 pick, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported on Wednesday morning that Detroit is a “trade-up threat.” The Lions may need to trade up to secure one of the top offensive linemen on their draft board.

Will Detroit pull off a draft trade? Is this a necessary move for the Lions to fill the need? Below, we’ll answer those questions and more.

Will the Lions Trade Up for an Offensive Tackle in the 2026 NFL Draft?

The Lions experienced a dip in offensive line play last season, and they elected to release left tackle Taylor Decker in the offseason. With that said, Detroit has a clear need for an offensive tackle.

As seen in our Big Board, the 2026 NFL Draft features a loaded offensive linemen class with five prospects among our top 21 players. Georgia OT Monroe Freeling, who is 15th on our Big Board, has been consistently linked to the Lions — including our 2026 NFL Mock Draft.

However, Schultz’s report on Wednesday may force Detroit to trade up for Freeling. He’s the top left tackle prospect of the 2026 class, filling the Lions’ need to a T.

According to PrizePicks Team Picks, an offensive lineman (1.33x) has the shortest payout for Detroit’s first position selected in the 2026 NFL Draft, followed by 2.32x for a tight end.

Note: All PrizePicks Team Picks payout multipliers are live as of writing and are subject to change.

The numbers above — like 4x — represent payout multipliers if your NFL Draft predictions are right on PrizePicks Team Picks (available in 35 states); a 4x multiplier on $100 pays out $400 if you’re correct. Additionally, lower payout multipliers means a lower implied probability based on user picks.
