LaMelo Ball Injury Update: Is LaMelo Playing Tonight After Car Crash?

The Hornets don’t have Ball listed on the injury report for Thursday’s game, and he’s expected to play against the Rockets as a result. According to Rod Boone of the Charlotte Observer, Ball didn’t suffer any injuries in the car crash that took place in Uptown Charlotte on Wednesday afternoon.

Per WSOC-TV, the two-car accident occurred at the intersection of Tryon and Trade Streets when Ball’s custom Hummer collided with the front left wheel of a Kia sedan. The Kia's driver was reportedly taken to the hospital due to non-life-threatening injuries.

It hasn’t been confirmed if Ball was the driver at the time of the crash, but video did show the Hornets star exiting the Hummer from the driver’s seat. He ended up leaving in a Lamborghini after police arrived at the scene of the accident.

Ball has spent all six of his NBA seasons with the Hornets since being selected by the franchise with the third overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. In 45 games this year, Ball has averaged 19.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 7.4 assists per game. His scoring and assist numbers are the lowest since his rookie campaign, as he’s logged a career-low 27.7 minutes per contest.
