Jaxson Dart Injury Update: How Much Time Will Giants QB Miss?
In the immediate aftermath of Dart’s injury, rumors swirled that it could be merely an MCL sprain. Speaking to the media on Monday night, head coach John Harbaugh alluded to something similar.
Late on Monday night, Connor Hughes of SNY reported that Dart did sustain a sprained MCL, which comes with a “2-3, 2-4 week” absence for the field general and a brace potentially being worn upon a return to the field.
An MRI on Tuesday is expected to reveal the complete extent of Dart’s injury, which would theoretically rule out an ACL after preliminary testing signaled that the ailment was less severe.
This marks the continuation of what’s been nearly a year-long run of concerns regarding Dart’s durability. The former Ole Miss standout spent ample time in the on-site medical tent as a rookie after taking some damaging hits, partially stemming from his eagerness to take on contact as a runner.
At the time of his injury, Dart completed 3 of 5 passes for 20 yards. He had 2,272 passing yards to go with 15 TDs and 5 INTs in 2025, on top of 487 rushing yards (third among QBs) and 9 TDs on the ground.
New York plays the Tennessee Titans and Arizona Cardinals at home in Weeks 3 and 4 — both winnable contests — before hitting the road to square off against the Washington Commanders in Week 5 and hosting the New Orleans Saints in Week 6.
Jameis Winston & Other Giants to Target If Dart Is Out
With Dart expected to perhaps miss some time, the Giants would turn to QB Jameis Winston to step in and relieve him. The former No. 1 overall NFL Draft pick is now in his age-32 season, so he’s been around the block a couple of times and is no stranger to short-term spot starts.
Winston struggled on Monday night, going 11-for-27 passing with 111 yards and an INT against a ferocious L.A. defense. He was much more respectable in three games last year, throwing for 567 yards, 2 TDs and 2 INTs while Dart sat out with a concussion.
Advanced metrics paint a much brighter picture of Winston’s 2025 production. Among QBs with 50+ plays on the year, per RBSDM, he ranked third in EPA per play (0.302) and fifth in average air yards (9.7). It’ll be interesting to see how the PPR fantasy production of WR Malik Nabers (WR55) and TE Isaiah Likely (TE3) is affected with a possible change at QB.
Elsewhere, the natural place to look is RB Cam Skattebo. Picked in the same draft class as Dart, he finished with just 36 yards on 12 carries in Week 2. After a year cut short by his own lower-body injury, he’s averaging only 3.9 yards per carry heading into a new week. Can New York, which owns a -5.0% pass rate over expected (via nfelo), get him going?
