How to watch Hull City vs. Manchester United: USA (English) / Universo (Spanish)

Kickoff Time: 7:30 a.m. ET

Venue: MKM Stadium, Hull, England

Hull City have made numerous changes to their squad, having opened up the checkbook this summer. That isn’t surprising, given many still wonder just how they gained promotion in the first place.

Unlike many teams that do well en route to promotion, Hull City did little well. Their underlying metrics closer resembled a mid-table side in the Championship than one that should be playing in England’s top flight.

That said, their roster is still mostly comprised of second-tier talent. The players with Premier League experience aren’t good enough to make the bench for many sides , which is why many pundits have predicted Hull City may flirt with Derby’s record for worst Premier League side ever.

Making matters worse, they’re dealing with a rash of injuries. GK Jack Butland, CB Charlie Hughes, and CB Paddy McNair are among those set to miss out on Hull City’s opener.

Manchester United looks to build on a terrific second half of the 2025-26 campaign. After Michael Carrick was appointed manager, the Red Devils took 39 points from a possible 51. It was the most of any club over the final 17 matches — 3 more than Arsenal earned.

The Red Devils have spent well, overhauling their midfield. The additions of CM Andrey Santos from Chelsea and CM Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa have given them depth and quality, while the impending transfer of CM Carlos Baleba will provide the lungs they desperately need.

It'll be difficult for CAM Bruno Fernandes to top the season he had last year, but he'll also have more matches to play. With the Champions League on the horizon, getting off to a strong start is important.

The question marks come on defense. They made no additions to a back line that has needed reinforcement for some time and will continue to rely on injury-prone LB Luke Shaw. CB Lisandro Martínez is returning from injury while CB Matthijs de Ligt remains a long-term absence.

Injuries to ST Benjamin Šeško and CM Mason Mount leave Man United a bit thin as well in attack, but the talent of forwards Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, Amad Diallo, and Patrick Dorgu gives Carrick plenty to work with.

Carrick will have Man United set up to hit Hull City with pace early and often. Hull City’s ability to handle that pace and get at the back line of the visitors may determine whether they can shock the league and pick up a result on their opening day.

Here are the key stats and trends for Hull City vs. Manchester United before making your Premier League predictions on PrizePicks.

  • Manchester United had the fifth-most touches in the penalty area of any club in the Premier League last season. They also ranked fourth in xG while leading all clubs with 5.7 shots on target per match
  • The Red Devils scored multiple goals in four of their final five matches last campaign, with Fernandes pulling the strings en route to a Premier League-record 21 assists.
  • Hull City finished ninth in xG in the Championship last season at the attacking end. But defensively, only Sheffield Wednesday conceded more xG than their 80.1 mark. Their opponents managed to score just 66 goals, however.
  • The worrying fact for Hull City is that they finished in the bottom half of the Championship in touches in the penalty area (18th), something they’ll likely find even more difficult in the Premier League.

Hull City vs. Manchester United Picks, Player Stats for PrizePicks: 8/22/26

Here are the top Hull City vs. Manchester United player picks to target on Saturday, August 22. Saturday's Premier League picks for PrizePicks are headlined by Konstantinos Tzolakis and Amad Diallo.

Hull City GK Konstantinos Tzolakis vs. Manchester United: 4.5 Goalie Saves

  • Hull City conceded the second-most shots on target in the Championship last season, with opponents testing their GK 4.59 times per match.
  • That number very well could go up this season, given the increase in competition and the fact that opponents are likely to keep them pinned back for long periods of time.
  • Hull City’s goalkeepers averaged 3.15 saves per 90 minutes, and they now have an upgrade in net with Tzloakis coming over from Greek club Olympiacos on a club-record transfer fee.
  • Manchester United led all clubs in the Premier League last season with 5.66 SOT per 90 minutes. They also ranked fifth in penalty box touches.
  • The expected match flow on Saturday lends itself to a situation where Manchester United may have Hull City defending for long stretches. This could lead to elevated shot totals for the Red Devils, and given Hull City’s compact shape, those shots could be a bit less dangerous.

Manchester United RM Amad Diallo vs. Hull City: 1.5 Shots

  • Diallo was a menace for Manchester United last season and continued that trend at the 2026 World Cup. Playing for the Ivory Coast, Diallo attempted multiple shots in three of his final four matches, including two substitute appearances. In total, he attempted 8 shots in just 230 minutes across the tournament.
  • Prior to that, Diallo attempted multiple shots in 16 of his 27 Premier League starts. He also attempted multiple shots in three of his four starts against newly promoted clubs.
  • Hull City conceded 14.7 shots per match a season ago, the third-most shots allowed in the Championship.
  • Diallo will be going up against Hull City LB Giles, a player who struggles to win duels and who is known for getting lost at times. This could allow for the dribble-heavy Diallo to create shooting chances for himself when Fernandes isn’t generating opportunities for him.
