Michael Carrick was issued a reprieve on Tuesday, as Matheus Cunha’s late brace salvaged three points for Manchester United. Roma led 2-0 inside of 18 minutes and easily could’ve doubled that margin before the break, but the Red Devils fought back and held on for their first victory in any competition in almost two months.

Their only victory in the Premier League came back at the end of August, a 5-2 win over newly-promoted Ipswich. Failure to win this weekend could see them drop into the relegation zone. They haven’t been in that position after 10 matches in England’s top flight in 40 years.

The Roma win came at a cost. CM Carlos Baleba injured his hamstring and will be out some time. The injury compound’s Carrick’s selection issues.

CB Lisandro Martinez is suspended for his red card last weekend against Chelsea, while CM Manuel Ugarte and ST Benjamin Šeško remain long-term absences. LB Luke Shaw, LW Marcus Rashford, and LB Patrick Dorgu all are also unlikely to go.

Carrick will turn to RW Bryan Mbeumo in attack, likely deploying him again as a striker. His 4 goals lead the club in the Premier League, while Cunha paces the side with 2 assists. GK Senne Lammens is still in search of his first clean sheet.

Aston Villa started the season failing to score in their first three matches but followed that with an 8-1-1 run that culminated in a 2-1 win over Manchester City. Since then, they’ve been outscored 7-1 in their last three matches, drawing 1-1 at home last weekend to lowly Fulham.

Their 3-0 trouncing at the hands of Barcelona saw them concede inside the opening 10 minutes. They offered little threat, putting just one effort on target, but will be confident given they sit sixth in the Champions League table after four matches. They’ll look to rebound in manager Unai Emery’s 200th Premier League match and win at Old Trafford for the first time in seven visits.

RB Matty Cash will miss out due to suspension, and fellow RB Aaron Wan-Bissaka is also a doubt, leaving Emery with some selection issues. CM Amadou Onana and LB Matteo Ruggeri continue to be long-term absences.

The Villans will hope ST Nicolas Jackson can continue his solid form. He leads the club with 5 goals, including 3 in his last two league outings. AM Johan Manzambi is pulling the strings with 3 assists, tied with RW John McGinn. GK Zion Suzuki has been a great addition and is seeking his third clean sheet.

Manchester United vs. Aston Villa Picks, Player Stats for EPL on PrizePicks – 11/8/26

Here are Manchester United vs. Aston Villa player picks to target on PrizePicks for Sunday, November 8. Today’s EPL picks are headlined by Matheus Cunha and Nicolas Jackson.

Man United LW Matheus Cunha Pick vs. Aston Villa: 24.5 Passes Attempted

  • Matheus Cunha’s position on Man United’s left flank has enabled him to get more involved in attacks, as he’s moved from playing centrally early in the season.
  • As a result, he’s averaged 42.2 passes per 90 minutes in his four Premier League appearances since making that switch following the draw with Fulham, based on data from WhoScored.
  • He’s cleared 25 passes in each of his last five EPL starts and in seven of his eight league matches this season where he’s played at least 45 minutes.
  • Aston Villa prefer to sit in a low block, which is why they enjoy the fifth-lowest possession per match on average, per Opta.
  • Man United rank fourth in passes in the final third of the pitch per match. Given how these teams operate, they could see an even higher amount of the ball as they play at home.

Aston Villa ST Nicolas Jackson Pick vs. Man United: 2.5 Shots

  • The absence of Baleba and Martinez for United leaves a gap in the middle of an already slow, leaky defensive structure. That opens up spaces for the pacey Jackson to attack.
  • Jackson is second on Aston Villa this season with 2.95 shots per 90, which ranks 17th among qualified players in the league (minimum 360 minutes).
  • Away from home, he’s sitting at 4.1 shots per 90. This falls in line with Villa sitting even deeper and looking to hit through the counterattack, when Jackson can get on the ball more frequently in space.
  • The Senegalese striker has attempted a total of 10 shots in his last two away Premier League fixtures and has attempted 3+ shots in four of his last five league starts overall.
