Latest Darius Garland Injury News
Garland is currently listed as questionable to play tonight in Cleveland, as one of three major pieces for the Cavs who may miss Game 2, as All-Star PF Evan Mobley (ankle) and SF De’Andre Hunter (thumb) are also listed as questionable and missed shootaround.
Some thought that Garland would be ready to make his return from the toe injury in a crucial Game 2. However, Garland missed Tuesday’s shootaround, which doesn’t bode well for his status tonight.
Garland is dealing with a sprain to his big toe — often referred to as turf toe. This kind of injury makes lateral movement difficult without significant pain.
Is Darius Garland Playing Tonight vs. Pacers?
After missing shootaround on Tuesday, it looks like Garland is leaning toward the doubtful side of questionable to play tonight. Even if he does play, it’s uncertain how effective he will be, as his injury will prevent him from pushing off his big toe as usual.
We likely won't know Garland's official status until close to game time at 7 p.m. ET, though warm-up should give us a good indication.
If he does sit, it will be a big loss for the Cavs, especially as Mobley (ankle) and Hunter (thumb) are also listed as questionable and missed shootaround as well.
In Game 1 vs. the Pacers, Sam Merrill started in his place, but put up only six points, four rebounds, and four assists across 18 minutes. The lack of a point guard opened up plenty of shots for SG Donovan Mitchell, who shot 30 times — a season high.
Ty Jerome also played 29 minutes off the bench and should pick up some additional guard minutes if Garland is out, as a key shooter for the Cavs.
