On Monday Night Football, the Washington Commanders (1-3-1) hit the road to face the San Francisco 49ers (5-0) at 8:15 p.m. ET on ABC and ESPN. The 49ers enter as 7.5-point home favorites on the spread, per PrizePicks.
When we last saw the Commanders, they inexplicably let time run out in overtime against the New York Giants before they could have kicked what would’ve been the game-winning field goal, resulting in a 27-27 tie.
Washington will attempt to put that embarrassing mistake behind them, but things won’t get any easier against San Francisco. The undefeated 49ers come in with plenty of momentum after taking down the Seattle Seahawks on the road, 32-29.
Below, we’ll break down our Commanders vs. 49ers prediction and pick for the spread for Monday Night Football in NFL Week 6.

If there was any positive to take from Washington’s head-scratching tie last week, it’s that QB Jayden Daniels made it through the whole game and reminded everyone what a force he can be when healthy. Daniels completed 17 of 25 passes for 199 yards and rushed 9 times for 103 yards and 2 TDs.
Overall, the Commanders have been roughly a league-average offense, posting 23.0 points per game and 327.4 yards per game. Perhaps they can improve on that if Daniels can stay on the field.
Washington will be without RB Jacory Croskey-Merritt due to a groin injury, leaving RBs Rachaad White and Austin Ekeler to man the backfield. WR Stefon Diggs is questionable to play, too.
Defensively, the Commanders have struggled, allowing 29.8 PPG. Much of the damage has come through the air, as they’re 29th in passing YPG (255.0) ceded but are ninth in rushing YPG (95.4).
They’ll have their work cut out for them against a potent 49ers offense.
San Francisco’s attack has been humming behind the strong play of QB Brock Purdy, who’s averaging the second-most adjusted yards per attempt (9.6) and has thrown 13 TDs to just 2 INTs. Even if we include Sunday’s games, Purdy has the league's second-most passing TDs in the sport.
Overall, the 49ers average the third-most PPG (30.8) and the ninth-most YPG (365.0). However, the 49ers have a lengthy injury report, which notably has WR Mike Evans listed as questionable and WR Deebo Samuel ruled out.
WR Christian Kirk is questionable as a candidate to be activated from injured reserve.
San Francisco has also been strong on defense, allowing both the fourth-fewest PPG (18.6) and YPG (297.2). They’ll be without DL Nick Bosa again this week, though, as he continues to deal with a calf injury.
Commanders vs. 49ers Prediction on Spread for Monday Night Football – 10/19/26
Here are the key stats and trends behind our Commanders vs. 49ers prediction on the spread for Monday Night Football.
- With a healthy Daniels in Week 5, the Commanders' offense posted 0.098 EPA/play, per RBSDM. That would be a top-10 mark over a full season, which is a promising sign going forward.
- Despite its record, Washington has turned the ball over only twice all season. Daniels hasn’t thrown an INT in any of his three starts.
- While the 49ers’ defense is coming off a 5-sack performance against the Seahawks, it's generally missed Bosa in the pass rush. Per Sharp Football Analysis, San Francisco is just 17th in pressure rate (36.5%). PFF gives the pass rush the 21st-best grade.
- For as great as Purdy has been, injuries have left the 49ers really thin at wideout. Evans is dealing with ribs and Achilles injuries, and even if he plays, there’s a chance he’s compromised. He leads the team with a 25.4% target share, per PlayerProfiler.
- Washington’s defense has struggled overall, but it does a solid job of stopping the run and is sixth in rush EPA/play allowed (-0.177).
- This could be a letdown game for the Niners. They're coming off a big road win over the Super Bowl champions and will now be at home against a team that committed an all-time humiliating clock management error.
- The 49ers are 1-1 against the spread when favored by more than a touchdown at home. They failed to cover as a 7.5-point favorite against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 3, winning 36-30.
