As a thrilling precursor to the WNBA All-Star Game, the State Farm WNBA 3-Point Contest goes down Friday, July 24, at 8:00 p.m. ET on ESPN.
Similar to years past, there will be a six-player field shooting 25 balls over 70 seconds across five racks.
Four 1-point balls and one 2-point “Money Ball” populate four individual racks. Each player also selects one placed rack to be all 2-point Money Balls. There are also two “From the Logo” balls for each shooter. They are placed at deep locations and are worth 3 points each. The top two scorers advance to the final round.

Of course, her presence as a rookie means she’s never participated in the contest, which has to be at least a bit of a drawback to backing her at the lowest payout on the board.

Valkyries G Janelle Salaün

With Caitlin Clark and Sabrina Ionescu out of Friday’s contest, the best shooter, by percentage, in the field also has the second-largest payout on the board.
This wouldn’t be the first time someone overlooked the Golden State Valkyries. Janelle Salaün’s ability to finish plays, shooting 39.4% on 6.3 3-point attempts per game, is a big reason why the 19-8 Valkyries manufacture offense beyond their name value.
The Frenchwoman shot 36.8% from deep on 4.8 attempts per game as a rookie and has responded with increased efficiency in 2026's increased role. Could a true breakout toward stardom come at this exhibition event?

I’ve mentioned Marina Mabrey a few times in passing, and the 29-year-old is certainly the grizzled veteran of this bunch.
Mabrey’s story, from a castaway in Connecticut to an All-Star again in Toronto, where she’s averaged 21.6 PPG, is inspiring. It’s also the resilience that could mean her first round isn’t over until the bell sounds.
There’s a reason that she’s toward the top of most projections. No player in the WNBA this season has more games with at least five made 3-pointers (6) than the Tempo’s leading scorer. She’s a microwave that can probably blow the field out of the water if she gets hot.
Her experience may help with optimal Money Ball rack placement, as well.
