2023 Dutch Grand Prix Storylines

Red Bull Dominance

Heading into the Dutch Grand Prix, Red Bull has continued to dominate the grid this season. Max Verstappen and Sergio “Checo” Perez sit atop the standings with 314 and 189 points respectively. The Red Bull rocketship hasn’t shown signs of slowing down this year as these two drivers have delivered masterful drives each race.

With his 1st place finish in Belgium before summer break, Verstappen set himself just one win behind Sebastian Vettel’s record of 9 consecutive wins. Even more impressive, Red Bull now seeks to extend their current record of 13 consecutive team wins as they enter the Dutch Grand Prix.

No matter what happens this weekend, we can be sure to see these two drivers near the podium, if not on top.

Mclaren’s Rising Stars

After a slow start to the season, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have begun to impress fans and their team at Mclaren. Both drivers have begun to rack up serious points and have found themselves on the podium in a few recent races.

Mclaren still have a long way to go to chase the top teams in the standings but the young duo of Norris and Piastri are certainly making waves as the backend of the season begins this Sunday.

Top DFS Projections: Formula 1 Dutch Grand Prix

Starting Position

Lewis Hamilton - Mercedes

Without a doubt, one of the greatest F1 drivers to ever step foot in the paddock and take the wheel. Lewis has won a record 7 driver championships in his tenure with Mercedes. He shares this record along with Michael Shumacher, one of the other most storied and accomplished F1 drivers, so he’s in good company.

Hamilton and Mercedes have struggled this year as Red Bull and Verstappen dominate the grid but Hamilton has still managed to put up some notable performances. He’s started in the top 5 in several races and even earned his first pole position (starting position #1) of the year a few weeks ago in the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Lando Norris - Mclaren

Norris is one of the younger drivers in Formula 1 but he’s quickly showing his potential and talent. Each race Lando seems to improve and now has multiple podium finishes in a season where Red Bull have done no favors for the field.

Norris is sure to come back with his foot still firmly on the gas (pun intended) as he and Mclaren look to close the season strong.

1st Pit Stop Time (Seconds)

Max Verstappen - Red Bull

“The Flying Dutchman” continues his record breaking year in his home country this weekend and it surely could be a fortuitous homecoming weekend for the top driver in F1.

Alongside Verstappen, the entire Red Bull team is performing in world class fashion this year. Quick laps and even quicker pit stops. Expect nothing less from Red Bull and company this week.

Daniel Ricciardo - Alpha Tauri

The perennial fan favorite, “Danny Rics” returned to the grid a few weeks ago after not starting the season with a contract. The former Red Bull driver now races for their subsidiary, Alpha Tauri.

He hasn’t done anything too impressive in his brief, two race return, but after a few weeks of summer break to get to know the car, Ricciardo could definitely start to show his old form.
