Start ‘Em, Sit ‘Em WRs, Week 4: Matthew Golden vs. Romeo Doubs?

Who'd be the better pick out of this NFL Week 4 Start 'Em, Sit 'Em dilemma: Matthew Golden or Romeo Doubs?

Why Start Matthew Golden?

Matthew Golden PrizePicks Projections: 57.5 Receiving Yards, 4.5 Receptions, 12 Fantasy Score

  • The Packers have lost WR Jayden Reed, who is having season-ending surgery on his neck. That leaves Green Bay thin at wide receiver behind Christian Watson and Golden.
  • Golden received 12 targets in last week’s 35-14 loss to the Falcons, recording 5 receptions for 100 yards and 1 TD. That marked his second game of the season with 12 targets.
  • With RB Josh Jacobs on the commissioner’s exempt list, the Packers have the fewest rush attempts (48) in the NFL. That has contributed to attempting the second-most passes (124).
  • According to PFF, Golden ranks fourth in targets (29) and sixth in routes run (113) among 84 qualified wide receivers.
  • Not only does the former first-round pick have an average depth of target (aDOT) of 14.2 yards, but he also ranks 14th with 6.4 yards after the catch per reception.

Why Start Romeo Doubs?

Romeo Doubs PrizePicks Projections: 39.5 Receiving Yards, 2.5 Receptions (Goblin), 9 Fantasy Score

  • The Patriots continue to play without WR A.J. Brown (ankle) who is on IR after suffering an ankle injury in Week 1.
  • Over the last two games without Brown, Doubs has 6 receptions for 145 yards. He did not catch a single pass with Brown on the field in Week 1.
  • Per PFF, Doubs ranks first in yards per reception (24.2) and fifth in aDOT (17.6) among wide receivers.
  • The former Packer showed big-play upside last season, as well, with 12 of his 55 receptions going for at least 20 yards.

Week 4 Start ‘Em, Sit ‘Em Verdict: Start Matthew Golden

The Packers are reeling without Jacobs. RB MarShawn Lloyd has been dreadful, posting 3.0 yards per carry. RB Kaleb Johnson hasn’t been much better, recording 3.2 yards per rush attempt. Neither player has scored a touchdown on the ground.

Green Bay should continue to deploy a pass-heavy offensive attack, given their limitations at running back. That means Watson, Golden, and TE Tucker Kraft should remain busy moving forward.

A potentially hefty target share awaits Golden for his Week 4 matchup with the Buccaneers, who rank 20th in catch rate allowed to wide receivers (63.6%), per RotoWire.

Doubs will take on the Bills, who haven’t exactly stood out on defense. According to RBSDM, Buffalo is 24th in dropback EPA allowed. With Doubs being a serious deep threat, it’s noteworthy that the Bills have allowed the second-most completions of at least 20 yards (14).

Since both wide receivers have favorable matchups, the deciding factor here comes down to volume.

olden has a 25.0% target share and has been targeted on 24.4% of his routes. Doubs has a 13.6% target share and has been targeted on 13.9% of his routes. The potential for more targets gives Golden the edge in this Start 'Em, Sit 'Em matchup.
