Sara Bejlek has been the feel-good story of this Cincinnati Open, reaching these semifinals despite entering the event unseeded with little to no expectations.

The 20-year-old began the year on a high note by winning her first WTA title as a qualifier in Abu Dhabi, vaulting her from being ranked outside the top 100 to cracking the top 50 for the first time. However, she struggled in the months that would follow, failing to win consecutive matches at any point during the clay and grass swings.

Upon returning to hard courts in July, she finally won consecutive matches for the first time since February, ultimately going 5-3 across three events before arriving in Cincinnati.

Perhaps returning to the surface where she won her first title gave Bejlek the confidence she needed, as she’s gone on to defeat Karolina Pliskova, Barbora Krejcikova, Ekaterina Alexandrova, Aryna Sabalenka, and Madison Keys. Four of those opponents are ranked inside the top 30, and Krejcikova, Sabalenka, and Keys are all major champions.

Sabalenka is, of course, the world No. 1, too.

Things won’t get any easier for Bejlek with the world No. 4 awaiting her across the net tonight.

After dropping her opening set here, Coco Gauff has mostly cruised to the semifinals, winning her last three matches in straight sets. She was practically gifted a 6-2, 6-2 win in the quarterfinals by Marta Kostyuk, who struggled mightily on serve, landing just 45% of her first serves and committing 8 double faults.

While Gauff actually hasn’t won a title in 2026, she’s been knocking on the door all season. This will be her third straight semifinal after also reaching this stage at Wimbledon and the Canadian Open.

According to Tennis Abstract’s Elo ratings, Gauff has an 83.8% win probability against Bejlek. While that doesn’t account for Bejlek’s wins here in Cincinnati, it’s an indication of how surprising this run has been for the young Czech player.

Mental and physical fatigue could also be a factor for Bejlek, as her last four matches have all gone at least an hour and 50 minutes, with yesterday’s quarterfinal win over Keys exceeding two and a half hours. Ultimately, it’s possible the magic finally runs out against a well-rested, top-five opponent playing on home soil.

Sara Bejlek vs. Coco Gauff Pick for the Cincinnati Open on Saturday

Bejlek vs. Gauff Pick – 20.5 Total Games

Gauff's last three matches have totaled 20, 17, and 16 games. All three came against opponents ranked inside the top 30.

The American has won 47.3% of her return points on hard courts this year, which is the fifth-best mark among the top 50 players. Here in Cincinnati, she's generated at least 8 break point chances in every match, breaking each opponent at least 3 times.

Gauff is 29-5 against players ranked outside the top 20 this season, which includes going 18-3 on hard courts specifically. Of those 18 hard-court wins, 12 have come in straight sets.

Before her upset of Sabalenka, Bejlek was 0-3 versus top-10 players and had never even won a set off one.
