Saturday marks Notre Dame's first major test, as the Fighting Irish haven’t previously faced a ranked team. ND has outscored its opponents 264-66 and held the opposition to 10 or fewer points in four of those contests.

Notre Dame topped Stanford in convincing fashion last week, outgaining the Cardinals 598-202. The Fighting Irish racked up 361 yards on the ground and averaged 7.7 yards per carry.

RB Jonaz Walton's rushed for 301 yards and 2 TDs in his last two games and is the leading rusher out of the Notre Dame backfield.

QB CJ Carr is on track for another phenomenal season as one of the nation’s top signal-callers. Carr has completed 70.8% of his passes for 1,378 yards and 16 TDs, being intercepted just once. The junior QB has tossed 10 TD passes across his last two games, including 4 TDs against North Carolina on October 3.

On defense, Notre Dame has been arguably the elite unit in the country. The Fighting Irish are +13 in the turnover battle and have registered 7 INTs.

Meanwhile, BYU also enters Saturday’s highly anticipated contest with a perfect record. The Cougars have allowed 20 total points over the past two weeks in wins against TCU and Iowa State.

BYU will be without one of its top weapons for Saturday night’s showdown. RB LJ Martin is slated to miss the next month as he deals with a lower-body injury. Martin had rushed for 344 yards (7.8 YPC) and 3 TDs in four games.

In last week’s win against Iowa State, QB Bear Bachmeier led the team with 109 rushing yards. RBs Preston Rex, Journee Tonga, and Devaughn Eka combined to rush for 54 yards on 17 carries (3.2 YPC).

Bachmeier could pace the Cougars’ rushing attack again, but it may be an uphill battle against a Fighting Irish defense that allows just 58.3 rushing YPG.

BYU has allowed the fewest total YPG in the Big 12 (254.4) and held Iowa State to just 200 total yards last week. The Cougars have produced a 20.2% havoc rate (11th overall) this season and tallied 11 sacks (fifth in the Big 12).

The two teams have met only three times in the last 15 years. Notre Dame is 2-1 against the spread in those tilts, including a 28-20 win in 2022 and covering a 2.5-point spread.
