MLB Trade Deadline Rumors: Top 5 Available Players
Here are the top five MLB players to watch that could be dealt before next Thursday’s MLB trade deadline. While there may be some surprises, these players have been linked to new teams in trade deadline rumors. Click to read more about each.
- Arizona Diamondbacks 3B Eugenio Suarez
- Kansas City Royals P Seth Lugo
- Miami Marlins P Sandy Alcantara
- Pittsburgh Pirates P Mitch Keller
- Baltimore Orioles 1B Ryan O’Hearn
Arizona Diamondbacks 3B Eugenio Suarez
Eugenio Suarez has put together a terrific season, sitting fourth in MLB with 36 home runs. Suarez has passed the 30 home run mark for the fourth time in five seasons, but his time in Arizona may be running out.
Suarez sits in the 91st percentile in barrel rate and 90th percentile in hard-hit percentage.
A trade wouldn't be the worst thing for Suarez, who may get dealt to a playoff contender like the Tigers, Cubs, or Yankees. Arizona sits outside the Wild Card race in the National League at 50-53, so keeping him won’t exactly mean a playoff run.
However, the Diamondbacks are close enough to .500 that they may keep him and try to sneak into a Wild Card spot.
Kansas City Royals P Seth Lugo
The Kansas City Royals are still hanging around the Wild Card race in the American League at 50-53 (4.5 GB). However, one of their key starters may be departing town, as Seth Lugo is on the trade block.
Lugo peaked last season with a career-high 16 victories to fuel Kansas City’s run to the postseason. His ERA and WHIP are very similar to last season, but his advanced metrics aren’t as kind.
Lugo ranks below the 50th percentile in many major advanced categories, except for walk rate at 7.3% (66th percentile). He won’t anchor any staff, but can turn into a reliable arm in the back end of a contender’s rotation.
He's coming off a quality start at Wrigley Field which is good to see for his trade value, but also keep the Royals within reach of a Wild Card spot.
Miami Marlins P Sandy Alcantara
Three years removed from capturing the NL Cy Young award, Sandy Alcantara has fallen off considerably. Alcantara still leads the Marlins in innings pitched this season after missing 2024 due to Tommy John surgery.
Alcantara may have only one start remaining as a Marlin, but the right-hander helped his trade value with seven strong innings against San Diego on Wednesday. He ranks in the 13th percentile or worse in xERA, xBA, Whiff%, and K%, clearly not performing the same since his surgery.
Can Alcantara reclaim his magic from 2022 for a team looking for a boost the final few months? The Padres are one team that would be interested in Alcantara, according to the Athletic, though he currently looks "unlikely to move."

Pittsburgh Pirates P Mitch Keller
The Pirates are going nowhere, despite of sweeping the AL Central-leading Tigers at home. They're 42-61 — the third-worst record in the National League — and have little hope to get right this season.
Pittsburgh is no stranger to disassembling its team at the trade deadline and 2025 should be no exception. SP Mitch Keller is in the midst of his fourth season of at least 10 losses in the last five years.
However, Keller owns some redeeming qualities on the mound. The right-hander ranks in the 93rd percentile in pitching run value and 85th percentile in walk rate. In all four July starts, Keller has tossed at least six innings, leading the Pirates to three wins.
He's a consistent, reliable arm, especially pitching in a big ballpark like Pittsburgh. He has gone eight straight starts surrending three runs or less.
According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Blue Jays have shown interest in Keller to help them make a run in the AL East.
Baltimore Orioles 1B Ryan O’Hearn
Following a pair of playoff appearances, the Baltimore Orioles have regressed this season in a big way. The O’s sit in last place of the AL East as the countdown to the offseason has begun.
However, slugger Ryan O’Hearn has been a bright spot, even earning a start for the AL in the All-Star Game. O'Hearn leads Baltimore in batting average and OBP, while possessing a .296 xBA (94th percentile) and .373 xwOBA (86th percentile).
O'Hearn's uptick across all metrics at age 31 could not come at a better time for a Orioles squad that already has to start looking beyond 2025.
O’Hearn’s bat will be a major benefit to any team playing in October, in spite of two hits in seven at-bats in the last two postseasons with the Orioles.
