The theme of the San Francisco 49ers’ season thus far has been overcoming adversity, and the club did so once again in Week 6. Hosting the Washington Commanders on Monday Night Football, an already depleted receiver room lost WR Mike Evans following an apparent aggravation of an injury.

With Evans’ Achilles forcing him out of Monday’s bout at Levi’s Stadium, is the prized offseason pickup in any danger of missing time and hurting San Fran’s chances of maintaining a perfect record?

Below, we’ll dive into the latest Mike Evans injury update and its potential impact on 49ers fantasy football picks and projections for PrizePicks.

Mike Evans Injury Update: Will Evans Play in Week 7?

The good news is that if you’re a 49ers fan, you can breathe a much-needed sigh of relief. Evans did not suffer an Achilles tear, instead merely staying down the same path with the injury he’s had for a bit now.

Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports that while it’s still up in the air, San Francisco is “hopeful” that the veteran might even be able to play in Week 7’s game vs. the Atlanta Falcons.

“This is an Achilles injury that is not a tear, but it is something that Mike Evans has dealt with and will continue to have to deal with,” Garafolo said. “But he left the game; you could see he was in incredible pain. Mike Evans, at this point in his career, plays such a physical style of wide receiver. He’s had so many ailments. If it’s a question of pain tolerance, this is the kind of guy that will battle through it.”

Late on Monday night, Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area posted that Evans was slated to miss “a little time” and could return right after the Week 8 bye “if all things stay according to plan.”

That slightly contradicts what head coach Kyle Shanahan had to say following the game, which fell more in line with Garafolo’s reporting.

At the time of his exit, Evans had recorded 94 yards on 3 catches and 5 targets. His yardage mark led the 49ers on Monday, marking the continuation of what’s been a return to form for the 33-year-old. Evans has racked up 420 receiving yards and 3 TDs in 2026, turning back the clock after an injury-shortened 2025 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Evans has also had a ribs injury this year, underscoring just how tough he is. According to Pro Football Focus, the connection between him and QB Brock Purdy has produced a 148.5 passer rating and 1.06 EPA per play thus far.

San Francisco hits the road for the Atlanta game this weekend (1 p.m. ET kickoff), then squares off with the Las Vegas Raiders in the late-afternoon window (4:05 p.m. ET) coming out of the bye.

49ers Fantasy Football Outlook If Evans Misses Week 7

Many receiver rooms would be in better places to withstand the potential loss of Evans than that of the 49ers. WRs Ricky Pearsall (knee), De’Zhaun Stribling (ankle), and Deebo Samuel (hamstring) are all on the shelf for varying periods, meaning Purdy’s had less than an ideal stable of weapons to throw to.

Despite that, Shanahan hasn’t shied away from airing it out with his MVP candidate signal-caller at the helm. Per nfelo, this offense boasts the seventh-highest pass rate over expected (2.9%, per nfelo) through Week 6. Purdy leads the sport in TD rate (8.2%) and QBR (85.8), proving capable of getting the job done regardless of who’s on the field.

That ceiling was put to the test on Monday. According to Warren Sharp, San Francisco went from averaging 0.58 EPA/play and a 50% success rate on passes with Evans on the field to posting respective marks of -0.54 and 29% once he got hurt.

In order to keep thriving vs. a Falcons defense that cedes football’s ninth-lowest dropback success mark (43.5%, RBSDM), two players come to mind.

In the passing game, TE George Kittle stands above anyone else. He’s put a 2025 Achilles rupture in the rearview mirror, averaging 65.0 receiving yards with 5 total TDs in his last five outings. Via SumerSports, his 25.3 total EPA ranks fifth at the position, giving Purdy a security blanket on every down.

RB Christian McCaffrey must also be considered. As a pass catcher, he’s gone out for more routes (143) than all but four players and has a 21.1% target share that leads all backs in the NFL. CMC led the Niners in both targets (10) and receptions (9) on MNF and also punched the ball into the end zone twice on the ground.

Both Kittle and McCaffrey figure to be significant parts of the operation for the 49ers moving forward, even if Evans is healthy enough to play. San Francisco is currently a 3.5-point favorite against Atlanta on Sunday, via PrizePicks, returning a 1.49x payout with a win.
