Deebo Samuel Injury Update: Is Samuel Playing This Week?
According to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, Samuel will undergo an MRI to determine the severity of his hamstring injury. Rapoport also reported that it was concerning that Samuel was almost immediately ruled out for the remainder of the game, which could signal that he might miss several weeks.
After Sunday’s 32-29 win, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan stated that he wasn’t sure how severe Samuel’s injury was.
Samuel sustained the injury in the third quarter when he landed awkwardly on the ball at the end of a running play. The veteran WR had been favoring his right hamstring earlier in the game before the injury.
If Samuel misses Monday’s Week 6 game, how does that affect fantasy football and 49ers picks for PrizePicks?
49ers Fantasy Football Outlook If Deebo Samuel Is Out
Samuel has had his most successful years with the 49ers, leading to a reunion this past offseason. In the early portion of the 2026 campaign, Samuel's enjoyed some strong production for San Francisco.
According to FantasyPros, Samuel had a WR54 average draft position (ADP) and was a popular late-round target in fantasy football drafts coming into the year.
Samuel has hauled in 16 passes for 206 receiving yards (third on the team) and 3 TDs (second) while also rushing for 78 yards on 9 carries (8.7 yards per carry). The veteran wideout caught 2 passes for 21 yards and registered 2 carries before leaving Sunday’s game.
Per PlayerProfiler, Samuel has tallied 70 yards after the catch (23rd among WRs) and the fourth-best juke rate (19.0%). The 49ers often use Samuel in space, using his contact balance and elusiveness through the air and out of the backfield.
Samuel has also notched 0.54 fantasy points per route run, which ranks 16th at his position.
With Samuel’s status currently unknown, WR Mike Evans could benefit from Samuel’s absence. Evans has already accumulated a 31.2% target rate and caught a season-high 7 passes for 113 yards and a TD in Sunday’s win against the Seahawks.
Week 6 offers a very enticing matchup against the Commanders, who have allowed the third-most PPG (29.8), 0.050 EPA per play (23rd), and a 46.8% defensive success rate (27th), per RBSDM.
On the other hand, the 49ers have racked up a 0.185 EPA/play (second) and a league-best 56.4% dropback success rate.
The Commanders' defense has also yielded a 0.073 dropback EPA/play (17th) and has allowed at least 30 points in three of its five contests. If Samuel’s injury isn’t as serious as originally feared, he does rank first in yards after catch per reception (10.2), per Pro Football Focus.
