Michigan vs. Oklahoma Prediction, Preview for CFB Week 2
Believe it or not, this is the first-ever regular season matchup between the Wolverines and Sooners.
Michigan split a pair of games against SEC teams last season, falling at home to Texas before beating Alabama in the ReliaQuest Bowl.
Oklahoma struggled in its first season in the SEC, but the Sooners are ranked 18th in the AP Poll despite a 6-6 record in 2024.
#15 Michigan Wolverines Preview
The Wolverines were on the verge of finishing 6-6 last season before shocking rival Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio, in the regular season finale. While the Buckeyes went on to win the National Championship, Michigan finished on a high note with three straight victories.
Fast forward to this season, when Michigan jumped out to a 17-0 lead over New Mexico in the opener before holding off the Lobos, 34-17.
No. 1 overall recruit and true freshman QB Bryce Underwood threw for 251 yards in his debut vs. New Mexico, while the Wolverines rushed for 201 yards.
Oklahoma Sooners Preview
The Sooners finished 2-6 in the SEC last season and won a total of two games between October through the end of November. They began the 2025 campaign with a 35-3 blowout of Illinois State, allowing a total of 34 passing yards.
The defensive line is the strength of this team, as they return almost all of their starters on a team that was top five in the nation in EPA/play vs. the run in 2024.
The Sooners have won 18 straight non-conference home games since 2017, including last week's cake walk.

Oklahoma QB John Mateer Projection: 241.5 Passing Yards
Mateer broke out last season at Washington State, racking up 3,139 yards and 29 TDs to lead the Cougars to an 8-5 record. The Sooners needed an upgrade at the QB position after Jackson Arnold exited to Auburn.
In Mateer’s OU debut, he lit up Illinois State for 392 passing yards and 3 TDs, while completing 30/37 passes. It marked his fifth effort of more than 300 passing yards since the start of last season.
Dating back to 2024, Michigan has not allowed more than 240 passing yards in five consecutive games.

Michigan RB Justice Haynes Projection: 68.5 Rushing Yards
Michigan RB Justice Haynes is getting his opportunity to shine following two seasons in the Alabama backfield. The junior scored 7 TDs and compiled 448 rushing yards in 2024, with his best effort coming in the season opener.
The shifty back broke off an 85-yard touchdown run and finished with 102 yards in a 63-0 rout of Western Kentucky. However, he posted only one game of more than 50 yards the rest of the season, a 79-yard output in a shutout of Missouri.
In his Michigan debut, Haynes ran all over New Mexico for 159 yards and 3 TDs.
Oklahoma yielded more than 70 rushing yards to six running backs last season. The Sooners ranked second best in the nation in expected points added allowed vs. the rush last year, giving up just 3.82 yards per rush.
Michigan WR Semaj Morgan Projection: 26.5 Receiving Yards
Michigan WR Semaj Morgan is looking to move up the depth chart in Ann Arbor after compiling a total of 343 receiving yards in his first two seasons.
In the opener against New Mexico, the Detroit native hauled in 33 yards on 4 receptions, catching all 4 of his targets. Morgan’s best game of 2024 came against Texas, posting 45 yards. He was used sparingly the rest of the season.
The Wolverines look to have a clear 1-2-3 at receiver in Donaven McCulley, Mordan, and Goodwin, who were teh only receivers with over 10 snaps vs. New Mexico last week.
In Morgan’s two best receiving games in 2024, he was on the field for at least 24 snaps; if he gets the same opportunity as he did in Week 1, he will have opportunities to reach this number.
