LSU enters Saturday’s game with a 4-1 overall and a 1-1 record in the Southeastern Conference. The only defeat was the 32-24 loss at Ole Miss, which the Tigers followed with a 35-6 beatdown of Texas A&M. That loss was the seventh straight road defeat in conference play, a streak the Tigers desperately hope to end today.
Lane Kiffin has an elite defense at his disposal, ranking in the 96th percentile or higher in 11 of Game on Paper’s 16 major metrics coming into the weekend. They will miss LB Whit Weeks, their second-leading tackler, after he fractured his leg vs. A&M.
The Tigers aren’t putting up the offensive numbers one would expect from a Kiffin-led unit, in part due to the struggles of QB Sam Leavitt to protect the football. His 7 INTs this season are tied for the most in the country heading into the week.
One way Kiffin can negate that concern is relying on the run game. RB Dilin Jones is a consistent runner averaging 4.5 yards per carry.
LSU is only 2-3 ATS this season, but Kiffin won’t be afraid of being big favorites on the road. When he was the head coach at Mississippi, he went on the road favored by more than a touchdown on 11 occasions and covered the spread in eight of them.
Kentucky hopes to counter that trend with one of its own. The Wildcats are 8-4 ATS in their last 12 games, and new head coach Will Stein is 4-1 overall and 4-1 ATS in the early season.
The Wildcats sit at 2-1 in SEC play, with their lone defeat being a 45-17 loss at home to Alabama that got away from them in the second half.
QB Kenny Minchey has been a revelation, with the transfer from Notre Dame throwing 11 TDs against just 1 INT. He’s quickly developed a strong bond with freshman WR Kenny Darby, who ranks 20th among qualified pass-catchers in receiving grade, per PFF.
Slow starts have been a big concern for the Wildcats. They trailed 17-0 last week at South Carolina before coming back and winning on a walk-off two-point conversion in overtime.
They also managed just one first-half touchdown against Texas A&M and trailed at home to South Alabama 21-14 late in the second quarter. Those slow starts have put a lot of pressure on a defense that, while talented, isn’t very deep.
The defense took a huge blow last week when LB Alex Afari Jr was ruled ineligible due to a court ruling and missed the South Carolina game. He remains out, which leaves the linebacker room thin for a defense ranked 97th in rush success rate allowed.

LSU vs. Kentucky Prediction on Spread – 10/10/26
Here are the key game stats and trends behind our LSU vs. Kentucky prediction on the spread for Saturday, October 10, in this important SEC clash.
- Stein has the Wildcats thriving on first down, ranking eighth in early downs EPA/play and 18th in average third-down distance. When they can’t stay ahead of the chains, they are struggling; only five teams have a worse late-down success rate this season.
- LSU’s defense does an outstanding job putting opponents behind the chains. The Tigers lead the nation in EPA/pass, available yards allowed, and average third-down distance. They also rank second in early-down EPA/play.
- Defensively, the LB depth for Kentucky will be a major weakness. The Wildcats rank 97th in rushing success rate, 70th in EPA/rush, and 113th in average third-down distance allowed. Big Blue also rank in the 20th percentile in explosive run rate allowed.
- The Tigers can utilize Alabama’s second-half game plan to simply wear the Wildcats down. The Tigers rank seventh in rushing attempts per game (47), and only Louisville has scored more than their 19 rushing scores.
- Running the ball could be very difficult for the Wildcats. Their line ranks in the 80th percentile in line yards and the 67th percentile in stuff rate allowed. The Tigers’ defense ranks 11th in EPA/rush and 26th in rush success rate against.
- If Kentucky is forced to throw the ball in obvious passing situations, LSU’s defense will likely thrive. The Tigers rank in the 99th percentile in havoc, pass success rate, and pass EPA/play allowed.

LSU vs. Kentucky Picks, Player Stats for PrizePicks: 10/10/26
Here are the top LSU vs. Kentucky picks to target on Saturday, October 10. Today’s college football picks for PrizePicks include QB Sam Leavitt and RB CJ Baxter.
LSU QB Sam Leavitt vs Kentucky: 0.5 Interceptions
- Sam Leavitt has thrown an interception in each of LSU’s five games this season, and his 7 INTs are tied for the most in the country.
- Leavitt isn’t afraid to force the ball into tight spaces, rocking a 6.9% big-time throw rate, per PFF.
- Five of Leavitt’s 7 INTs have come from a clean pocket, indicating some poor decision-making. Facing a Kentucky defense ranked in the 75th percentile in havoc rate could lead to an increase in those poor decisions.
- The Wildcats also sit 12th nationally with 6 INTs and seventh nationally with 2.3 takeaways per game.
Add Sam Leavitt + LSU to win to your PrizePicks lineup now.
Kentucky RB CJ Baxter vs. LSU: 53.5 Rush Yards
- LSU’s defense ranks first nationally allowing just 1.7 yards per carry and second with 47.5 rush yards allowed per contest.
- Kentucky’s inability to extend drives against LSU’s defense could see CJ Baxter get a lower carry total this week. The Tigers rank 16th in third-down defense, while the Wildcats are 131st in converting on third down.
- Baxter had just 48 rushing yards last week in an overtime win at South Carolina and has breached the 50-yard mark just twice this season. He’s also failed to reach 50 yards in two of his three SEC contests.
- Baxter averages 2.9 yards after contact and has only 6 breakaway runs on 68 carries. That could hurt his rushing total against an LSU defense that ranks in the 96th percentile in line yards allowed and the 98th percentile in explosive run rate against.
Add CJ Baxter + Kentucky to cover to your PrizePicks lineup now.
