Justin Jefferson Injury Update: Will Jefferson Play in Week 4?
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, it’s just an ankle sprain for perhaps the best receiver in the world. This isn’t necessarily a week-to-week injury, and there’s even some hope that he might just be active in Week 4.
Speaking to the media in the aftermath of Sunday’s 23-16 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell said he was “very encouraged” by Jefferson avoiding anything long-term. He adds that Minnesota will now focus on decreasing swelling and seeing if its WR1 can return to practice in some capacity soon.
Jefferson suffered the sprain just seven snaps into his third game of the year, although he’d already converted on both of his targets and amassed 32 receiving yards. He’s at 13 grabs for 179 yards and 2 TDs through three weeks, even with QB Kyler Murray going through concussion protocol for part of that stint.
The four-time Pro Bowler has gotten off to one of the best starts to a career for a WR in league history, averaging 96.5 receptions, 1,413 yards and 7 TDs per season from 2020-2025. Despite some of football’s worst QB play a season ago, he still managed to place seventh among all receivers with a 30.13% target share (via SumerSports) while maintaining 1.88 yards per route run.
According to Fantasy Points Data, Jefferson ranks fourth in YPRR with 3.31 entering Week 4. If he does miss a game or two, his absence would surely be felt. Minnesota’s injury reports on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday should deliver more clarity on his outlook.

Pair all of that with RB Jordan Mason being on IR and fellow halfback Aaron Jones having a nagging knee injury that renders him less than 100% healthy, and you get a potential recipe for an Addison-heavy game plan if Jefferson misses time.
