James Harden Injury Update: Is Harden Playing Tonight?

The Clippers originally listed Harden as questionable for Wednesday’s game vs. the Knicks due to a sore right shoulder. However, he was upgraded to probable this afternoon and is likely to play vs. the Knicks.

Los Angeles chose to rest Harden in Monday’s 103-102 win against the Warriors due to the injury.

Prior to Monday’s contest, Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue suggested that Harden was just dealing with “body fatigue.”

In addition, Lue believed that the sore stiffness likely resulted from Harden carrying the scoring load when SF Kawhi Leonard was out with ankle and foot injuries earlier this season.

Harden may not be a yearly MVP candidate at this stage of his career, but he’s having one of his most productive campaigns in quite some time.

The Clippers star is averaging 25.7 points and a team-high 8.0 assists, while shooting 35.8% from beyond the arc. His 25.7 points per contest are his highest average since tallying 34.3 points per game with the Houston Rockets in 2019-20.

Target Kawhi Leonard if James Harden is Injured?

If Harden isn’t able to take the floor against the Knicks, Kawhi Leonard is one player who could certainly benefit from Harden’s absence.

While Harden has been having a sensational year, Leonard has arguably been even more impressive. Leonard is currently averaging a team-best 28.1 points, while also pulling down 6.6 rebounds and recording 3.5 assists per game. The veteran wing is also shooting 36.2% from beyond the arc.

His season-long numbers have been spectacular, but Leonard has really been lighting up the stat sheet as of late. Over his last eight games, Leonard is averaging 35.0 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 4.0 assists in addition to shooting 37.3% from beyond the arc.

He even tied a Clippers franchise record with a 55-point performance in a 112-99 win vs. the Detroit Pistons on Dec. 28. Leonard has also topped the 30-point mark on five occasions over that eight-game stretch.

According to databallr, Leonard spends 25.5% of his time on ball handling the basketball when he’s on the floor, giving him ample opportunities to be involved in the offense. That ranks in the 94th percentile among NBA players.
