Ja’Marr Chase Injury Update: Is Chase Playing This Week?

Early in the second quarter of Week 4, Chase caught a short pass from QB Joe Burrow and suffered a concussion as a result of an illegal hit from Jaguars CB Jarrian Jones. Chase was helped off the field and didn’t return to the contest.

Chase has been placed in concussion protocol since suffering the injury. The Bengals WR logged a limited practice Thursday after sitting out Wednesday’s session.

On Friday, Chase practiced for the second straight day, according to ESPN1530’s Mike Petraglia. Further, head coach Zac Taylor said Chase is still in concussion protocol and is questionable for Sunday.

While Friday's practice was a step in the right direction, it’s unclear whether Chase will return to the field against the Dolphins. If he misses Sunday’s game, how does that affect fantasy football and picks for PrizePicks?

Bengals Fantasy Football Outlook If Ja’Marr Chase Is Out

It’s no secret that Chase has developed into one of the NFL’s top pass catchers since being drafted in 2021. According to FantasyPros, Chase earned a WR1 average draft position (ADP) for fantasy football and was a top-three pick in most drafts.

Chase ranks second on the team in receptions (21) and receiving yards (212) but is tied for the team lead in TDs (3). The Bengals star wideout turned in his best performance of 2026 against the Steelers in Week 3, logging 9 receptions for 98 yards and a TD.

Chase also registered 7 receptions for 75 yards and 2 TDs against the Texans in Week 2. In Week 4, the former LSU star caught just 3 passes for 27 yards before being forced out of the game.

According to PlayerProfiler, Chase has just an 18.1% target share to start the season, ranking 44th among WRs. His 21 receptions also ranked 11th among all NFL wideouts.

If Chase can’t clear concussion protocol, the Bengals may not be able to turn to WR Tee Higgins. Higgins is dealing with a groin/neck injury and is listed as questionable for Week 5.

With Higgins’ status also up in the air, WR Dohnte Meyers could benefit from Chase’s absence. Meyers may have just 11 receptions for 129 yards this season but has tallied 69 yards after the catch (24th among all NFL WRs).

Week 5 offers an enticing matchup against the Dolphins, who allow 25.3 PPG (21st), 0.092 EPA per play (28th), and a 46.7% success rate (25th), per RBSDM. On the other hand, the Bengals have been fairly productive offensively, racking up a 0.046 EPA per play (10th), a 44.7% success rate (14th), and 24.3 PPG (14th).

The Dolphins have also allowed a 51.5% dropback success rate (fifth) and 226.5 passing yards per contest (18th). If Chase plays, the Bengals WR ranks 18th in targets (28) and hasn’t dropped a single pass this season.
