Two of college football’s biggest rivals meet as the undefeated #3 Miami Hurricanes host the struggling Florida State Seminoles. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET on Saturday, October 17 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens and will be televised nationally on ESPN.

Last season’s national runner-up hasn’t skipped a beat in 2026, starting 5-0. The Hurricanes have won four of their five games by 28 or more points and are coming off a 41-13 rout of Clemson two weeks ago.

The Seminoles jumped out to a 14-0 lead at Louisville last Friday but were steamrolled by the Cardinals 44-20 to fall to 1-2 in ACC play.

Below, we'll break down our Florida State vs. Miami prediction and picks for Saturday's college football game, including the winner, spread, over/under, and key player picks for PrizePicks.

The Hurricanes rank third nationally in net EPA/play, according to Game on Paper, while sitting fifth in EPA/pass. Heisman Trophy hopeful QB Darian Mensah leads the country in completion percentage (84.2%), also throwing 15 TDs and no INTs.

Mensah's coming off his "worst" game as a Hurricane, completing only 66.7% of his passes and throwing a season-low 1 TD pass in the Clemson blowout. The Tigers ran 13 more plays but picked up 65 fewer yards than the Canes while UM posted a total EPA of 17.38.

Florida State, meanwhile, has won only 10 games since the start of the 2024 season after capturing 13 victories in 2023. The Seminoles have led by 15 at Alabama and 14 at Louisville but lost both games by double digits.

Louisville ripped off 9.84 yards per play last Friday, gaining nearly 400 yards on the ground. FSU ranks 104th in the country defensively in both dropback EPA/play and EPA/rush and is 126th in defensive success rate against the run.

So where are the positives for head coach Mike Norvell’s team with the clock potentially ticking on his employment? The Noles are eighth nationally in EPA/rush, highlighted by a 281-yard effort in their lone ACC win over Virginia on October 3.

This series has been all over the place due to both programs not being on equal footing. FSU won three straight matchups from 2021-23, but Miami captured the last two meetings, including a 28-22 triumph in Tallahassee last October.

The Canes are looking to beat the Noles for the third straight season with three different QBs (Cam Ward in 2024, Carson Beck in 2025). The last Florida State QB not named Jordan Travis to beat Miami was Deondre Francois back in 2016.

Florida State vs. Miami Prediction on Spread – 10/17/26

Here are the key game stats and trends behind our Florida State vs. Miami pick against the spread for Saturday, October 17.

  • Tonight marks the second time in three matchups that Miami closed as a favorite of at least 20+ points against FSU.
  • During FSU’s 11-game road losing streak, the Seminoles have covered the point spread twice, including as 22.5-point underdogs at Miami in 2024.
  • The Hurricanes own a 9-1 against-the-spread (ATS) record in their last 10 games, including being 4-1 ATS this season.
  • The Seminoles posted a total EPA of 11.0 or higher in each of their first five games before compiling just 0.38 against Louisville.
  • Miami star WR Malachi Toney’s yards projection is set at 103.5 yards; he owns three performances of at least 114 in 2026.
  • In last season’s win over Florida State, Toney finished with 107 receiving yards, but his projection closed at 57.5.
  • Florida State QB Ashton Daniels has topped 200 passing yards in both road games. His Saturday projection sits at 189.5 passing yards.
  • The Seminoles outgained the Hurricanes 434-329 and ran 25 more plays in last season’s loss. The 28-22 final score was misleading, as Miami jumped out to a 28-3 lead before FSU scored 19 fourth-quarter points.
